  • South Central gets thumped...

KINMUNDY – A solo home run from junior Larry Schoreck was all South Central needed to win what was a pitcher’s duel in a regional semifinal game against St. Elmo last Wednesday.

The Cougars came away with the 1-0 win after senior Derek Harmeier and junior Colby Bushue combined to hold the Eagles to just two hits and one walk.

South Central was unable to secure its sixth straight regional championship on Saturday, however, falling to North Clay, 11-1.

  • Bombers hold early lead but fall...

KINMUNDY – For four innings last Wednesday, Brownstown played nearly flawless baseball against North Clay in a semifinal regional tournament game.

But then the Cardinals showed why they were seeded No. 1, scoring 13 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to beat the fourth-seeded Bombers, 14-4.

“Colten (Hunter) went out there and threw four beautiful innings,” said Brownstown coach Ken Milano. “Then (North Clay) made a couple important plays, and that was it.”

  • Beccue encouraged by dugout...

KINMUNDY – When senior Derek Harmeier stepped onto the field to pitch the seventh inning for South Central last Wednesday, some players in the St. Elmo dugout said they were happy to see the Cougars’ top pitcher back on the mound.

And though Harmeier induced a lightly-hit grounder and struck out the final two batters of the 1-0 South Central win, Eagles coach Ryan Beccue was pleased to see his team wanting to compete against the best available player.
