  • Jackson's first weeks on...

For the past few weeks, Kevin Jackson has been arriving at Vandalia Community High School at 6 a.m. He lets himself in and heads for his office, a 10-foot-by-10-foot room not far from the gymnasium.
In one corner of his office, he has his desk with a computer; in the other corner, a two-drawer file cabinet.  Behind his desk on a bulletin board are the schedules for the five fall sports in which VCHS participates.

  • Vandalia softball places second...

This summer, the Vandalia Community High School softball team participated in a Decatur summer league.  The Lady Vandals played in their end-of-season tournament in Decatur, on July 24 and 25,  finishing in second place.
In game one, they lost to the Crush, 13-1.  Megan Godoyo hit a triple to drive in the Vandals' lone run of the game.

  • In good hands

Injuries can occur at any moment in sports, whether it's the big play that wins a game or a simple drill the first day of practice.
In the past, Vandalia Community High School's on-site medical staff has been somewhat limited. There's always an ambulance and EMT staff at football games, but for every day at practice or at volleyball or tennis matches, the only medical staff is the coach or maybe a parent helping out.

  • FOD half way to goal for phase...

The Field of Dreams committee announced at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night that it is "over the hump," in fund rasing for phase two of the high school diamond construction.
Luke Hohlt, VCHS baseball coach, gave a report showing that the committee has raised $39,565, with $25,640 of the money already in the Old Capital Fund account. More than $13,900 has been pledged to be given in the next 12 months.
The group still needs $25,384.75 in hand to hit its goal of $51,024.75.
