  • Vandals improving in each soccer...

The Vandalia High School soccer team has done no better than a draw this season, but the young team has still taken strides in the right direction.
Coach Walt Kinney said the team has shown improvement in each game, and while the collective results appear to read otherwise, Kinney said his team could be in line for a win very soon.
“Definitely,” Kinney said. “We have a game Thursday against Centralia, who we tied a week ago.

  • Improving Vandals tennis squad...

Though the season is still young, Vandalia tennis coach Kevin Schroeder believes his team has already surpassed its level of play from last season.
“I think we’re already better than last year,” Schroeder said. “At the beginning of the season, I was thinking if we won three matches, that would be pretty good.
“Now, I think we could win four, five, six matches.”

  • Vandal netters down Greenville

Losing against rival Greenville could have been devastating for the Vandalia volleyball team’s confidence.
And after dropping the first set 25-19 on Tuesday night, a loss seemed to be lurking.
“I don’t think we were prepared,” coach Allison Brown said. “We were overcranked as far as excitement goes.”
Several Vandalia blocks and tips from that set were not hit with control, leading to easy Greenville points. But the Vandal squad recognized those miscues and made sure to not repeat them the rest of the night.

  • Vandals start strong but lose to...

ROXANA – The Vandalia football team started off fast against Roxana last Friday, but costly turnovers and missed tackles allowed the Shells to rally from an early deficit to top the Vandals, 32-14.
The Vandals (1-2) needed just 13 seconds to open the scoring, as junior Bryan Hosick raced 82 yards down the field for a touchdown on the game’s opening kickoff.
