  • Tough Competition

    CANTON — Vandalia's first appearance at the Canton Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament ended in disappointment.
    The Vandals went 0-3 at the 40th edition of the annual event at Canton's Alice Ingersoll Gymnasium.
    Vandalia's boys had their chances in two of the three games, as the team suffered close losses to Delavan and Canton.
    The Vandals suffered a 58-48 loss to Delavan on Friday night before dropping two games on Saturday, falling to the hosts and Peoria Manual.

    Wearing a brand new uniform and sitting with new teammates in an unfamiliar bullpen on a warm Texas night, Spencer Patton tells himself, “Don’t fall asleep.”
    After a hectic and life-changing few days, Patton is exhausted, mentally and physically.
    Patton has only been in town for a few hours, and he’s concerned he may actually doze off.

  • Vandalia girls fall to Hillsboro

    Hillsboro defeated Vandalia, 54-45, in girls basketball action on Thursday night.

    Makayla Tinker scored 17 points to lead the way for the Lady Vandals. Madelyn Hosick added 11 points, while Emma Meyer scored nine.

    The Lady Vandals fell to 5-4 on the season. The Hilltoppers improved to 7-2.

    Patoka knocks off Mulberry Grove

  • Aces win on Goodin's buzzer...

    MULBERRY GROVE — Alex Goodin's buzzer-beater capped off a furious comeback.
    It also gave the Mulberry Grove boys basketball team a thrilling 53-52 win over Christ Our Rock Lutheran on Friday night.
    Christ Our Rock had a 10-point halftime lead, 31-21.
    At one point in the second half, the Silver Stallions had a 17-point advantage.
    CORL held a 42-34 lead entering the fourth period, but the Aces went on a 19-10 run to finish the game.

  • Vandals win Civic Memorial...

    The Vandalia Community High School wrestling team won the Civic Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

    Vandalia had four individual champions at the event — Chaston Womack, Ryne Lipsey, Dalton Blankenship and Jake Stewart.
    Blankenship was named the tourney's Most Outstanding Wrestler.
    The Vandals also had two second-place finishers in Kolton Etcheson and Kendrick Woolsey.

  • Lady Vandals finish tourney with...

    LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield Tournament ended on a positive note for the Vandalia Community High School girls basketball team.
    The Lady Vandals knocked off Mt. Olive, 60-52, on Saturday  to finish off the 16th Annual Niehaus-McDonald's Thanksgiving Tournament with a solid victory.
    Vandalia improved to 3-2 on the season overall with the hard-fought win.

  • Cougars knock off Vandals in...

    FARINA — The Vandalia Vandals nearly overcame a 15-point deficit.
    But in the end, fired-up South Central made all the plays down the stretch in a 67-61 victory over Vandalia last Tuesday night in the 2014-15 season-opener for both teams.
    For the Cougars, it was a great way to start the 2014-15 season.
