  • Vandal tennis team set for...

The Vandalia High School tennis team played three matches last week in final preparation for its sectional at Effingham this Friday and Saturday. Match times were not determined by press time.

The Vandals finished the regular season with 5-11 record.

  • Vandalia volleyball squad visits...

  • Vandals still in contention for...

The Vandalia football team still has an opportunity to qualify for the playoffs.

But it will not be an easy task for the Vandals (4-3) to end the season as one of the top 256 programs in Illinois, as the team will face Pana (6-1) on the road on Friday and host Greenville (6-1) in the season finale next week.

Coach John Stout does believe that his team has the resilience to play competitive football in those games.

  • Guerrero helping lead Rockford

The Rockford College volleyball team started the year taking quite a few lumps.

Now, in Northern Athletics Conference action, they are giving the lumps. The Lady Regents have won their last three NAC matchups, beating Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-1), Lakeland College (3-2) and Aurora University (3-1).

  • Vandalia narrowly beats...

The coaches cringed when Holly Goldsmith’s first attack attempt of last Thursday’s volleyball match was blocked by Litchfield.

Throughout the season, in-game adjustments have been one of the weakest parts of Vandalia’s repertoire, and with Goldsmith’s spike being one of the team’s most valuable assets, the fear of not being able to adjust set in.

Luckily for coach Allison Smith, history doesn’t always repeat itself in sports, and her team won the match in three sets, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21.

  • Paige Myers' work not yet...

PATOKA – Her vicious spikes draw cheers from the crowd – even during warm-ups.

Her jump serve can swing a game’s momentum into her team’s favor in less than a minute.

Her skills are being pursued by several colleges.

But at the end of the day, “I don’t consider myself to be better than anybody else,” said senior Paige Myers, the unselfish superstar of Patoka High School’s volleyball team.
