  • Kaskaskia College to hold...

    The Kaskaskia College baseball team, under head coach Mitch Koester, will hold an open tryout for prospective players on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m. at the college baseball field.  

    Players throughout the area are welcome to attend, and all players participating must have a completed physical form with them.  

    The tryout will be held two to three hours with conditioning.

  • YMCA to host sand volleyball...

    The Fayette County Family YMCA is hosting a double-elimination sand volleyball tournament on Sept. 24-25.

    The registration fee is $90 per team. A maximum of eight people high school-age or older can be on a team, but only six individuals will receive a T-shirt. At least two women must on the court at all times.

    Those younger than 18 will need a parent's signature to play, and all players must sign a waiver.

    The minimum number of players on the court is four, and the maximum is six.

  • Journey of Hope Push America...

    A Journey of Hope Push America team pedaled through Vandalia this week and was hosted for the night at the Fayette County Family YMCA.

    Journey of Hope riders bicycle about 75 miles a day during a cross-country trek that supports people with disabilities.

  • Altamont fast-pitch softball...

    A fast-pitch softball team featuring several local players won the Teutopolis Invitational on July 16. Altamont Home Center was 4-1 in the tournament, winning the championship game against Teutopolis KC's, 10-0. 

    Anthony Grobengieser was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, after hitting two home runs and having several other hits, and Jarred Simmons was named the Most Valuable Pitcher, after going 3-1 and pitching the championship game.

  • Revival Run top finishers

    Proceeds from the 4-mile run benefitted the Liberty Christian Youth Group.

    The Vandalia Sport Fishing and Conservation Club awarded trophies to its Sportsmen of the Year for 2010 on Saturday, July 16.

  • It takes two games, but Lady...

    DECATUR - Battling excessive heat and the top seed, the Lady Vandals still came out on top.

    After falling to Warrensburg-Latham in the first game of the double-elimination tournament in a Decatur league for high schools on Saturday in 100-degree heat, the Lady Vandals stormed back in an offensive show the second game to win the league championship, 15-13.
