  • Eastern Illinois University to...

    Eastern Illinois University baseball coach Jimmy Schmitz is holding a Christmas baseball camp at the EIU Lantz Fieldhouse.
    The camp will run from Dec. 28-30, and players may commute or stay overnight at the Worthington Inn.
    Schmitz is running a total skills camp for players in grades 5-12, and the cost is $225 for commuters and $275 for players who choose to stay overnight. Meals are included.

  • Fayette County hunters take...

    There were 492 deer killed in Fayette County during the second firearm season and 1,907 during the 2010 season, according to totals released by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

    One hundred and fifty-one fewer deer were killed in the county in the two seasons, from Nov. 19-21 and Dec. 2-5, than were killed during last year’s deer season.

    Statewide, 98,700 deer were killed, a decrease of 719. In the second season, 30,663 deer were killed, a decrease of 2,630 from last year.

  • SC girls to play on Saturday

    The South Central High School girls basketball team will play Woodlawn in its home opener on Saturday at 2 p.m. after that game was canceled on Monday.

    South Central is 2-5 (2-2 Midland Trail Conference) this season.

  • Brownstown girls win, lose and...

    The Brownstown High School girls basketball team defeated Casey-Westfield High School, 51-45 on Tuesday.

    Kel-C Sefton led the Bombers with 16 points and five rebounds. Morgan Myers was right behind with 10 points and five boards.

    Last Thursday, the Brownstown High School girls basketball team lost to  Neoga, 61-38.

    Brownstown held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, but Neoga would outscore the Bombers 36-13 over the next two periods to take a 46-27 lead into the fourth quarter.

  • Ramsey JH boys have successful...

    The Ramsey Junior High Boys basketball team had a successful week, defeating both Mulberry Grove and Brownstown.

    Brownstown was able to defeat the Ramsey seventh-graders, but the Rams won the rest of the contests.
