  • St. Elmo beats Patoka to advance...

ST. ELMO – Eagles coach Greg Feezel was not expecting his team to produce a 38-point blowout in the first round of the regional tournament on Monday.

But that’s what happened, as St. Elmo soared to a 67-29 win against Patoka.

“I was (actually) concerned, because we just got done playing Beecher (City), we hadn’t seen Patoka in a while and we had Altamont lurking,” Feezel said. “I thought, ‘I hope we don’t overlook (them).’”

  • Lady Cougars bow out in second...

The South Central High School girls basketball team was the only one in the area to advance to the second round of the regional tournament, but the Lady Cougars lost to North Clay in the second round last Wednesday, 54-35.

Senior Ashley Pollard scored 14 points in her final game with South Central (4-15, 2-3 Midland Trail Conference).

South Central beats Patoka on emotional evening

The same day a fellow student was found dead, the South Central High School boys basketball team gave students a few hours of distraction by dispatching Patoka, 34-29, last Wednesday.

Dalton Rogers died in his home last Wednesday morning. He played baseball for the Cougars in the fall.

The basketball game was very slow to develop, however, as the Cougars trailed the Warriors, 12-8, at halftime.
