  • Vandalia baseball team has rough...

    The Vandals had a tough slate of games this past week, going 0-3 and having two games washed out by rain on Saturday.

    This week, Vandalia will host Shelbyville on Thursday and South Central on Monday. The Vandals travel to Greenville on Wednesday.

    All games will start at 4:30 p.m.

    Vandalia vs. Altamont
    Altamont defeated Vandalia, 19-8, on Tuesday.

    The Vandals led 5-3 after two innings, but the Indians piled on 10 runs in the final two innings to win.

    Marty Johnson among four area players selected for KC District All-Star Game

    Vandalia senior Marty Johnson is one of four area seniors selected to play in Sunday's Kaskaskia College District All-Star Game.

    Patoka's Sawyer Potter, and South Central's Andrew Snow and Taylor Cain were also selected.

    Mulberry Grove's Harley Steed and Allen Tompkins were invited, but are unable to attend.

    Admission to the 3 p.m. game is $3 for adults and $1 for students.

    YMCA holding Healthy Kids Day event

    The Family YMCA is hosting a free event in conjunction with the national YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday.

    The event will take place from 1-3 p.m., with activities such as tug-o-war, dodge ball, kick ball and a fun relay.

    The day is designed to help parents and children understand the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

  • State Champion Tumbler

    Trista Kinkel won the championship in the sub-novice 9-year-old division at the USTA state meet in Decatur last Sunday. She advanced to the national meet in Charleston, W.V., in June. She is the daughter of Tammy and Jeff Kinkel of Pocahontas, and the granddaughter of Catherine Haynes of Vandalia.

    The softball game between Vandalia and Altamont scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, has been moved from Altamont to Vandalia.

    The game will be played at 4:15 p.m. at the fields between VCHS and Vandalia Elementary School.

    ST. ELMO – A grand slam earlier this season has already given St. Elmo senior Kase Stolte something from his senior year that he will always remember.

    “Me and Ben Sperry have a thing about who is leading the team in home runs, so it was a good feeling that I tied him and hit in three other guys,” Stolte said.

    Through Tuesday, they were still tied with two apiece.

    But, if it’s up to Stolte, the grand slam and contest will be just two of many memories created this season.
