  • SC pitchers record 12 K's...

    KINMUNDY – Two pitchers combined to strike out 12 Trenton hitters, and each South Central player reached base at least once during an 8-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader last Saturday.

    Shawn Meyer started for Post 519 and struck out 11 before being replaced on the mound after 6 1/3 innings of work. Luke Krajefska finished out the game, inducing a fielder's choice and striking out the final batter.

  • Lady Vandals get training from...

    An assistant volleyball coach from Murray State University was in Vandalia last Friday and Saturday to run a clinic for the high school volleyball team.

    Dongping Fang, who was born in China, was brought in by the Sports Boosters, and he helped the Lady Vandals players and coaches improve during his stay.

    “This would not have been possible without the help from the Sports Boosters,” said coach Allison Brown.

  • Two athletes honored for...

    Two area collegiate players were recently honored for athletic or academic achievements.

    Spencer Patton, a South Central graduate and former Southern Illinois University pitcher, was named the American Baseball Coaches Association’s NCAA Division I Rawlings Gold Glove winner.

    He was the only Division I pitcher given the award, and earned the honor after committing no errors in 27 chances this past season at SIU.

    Patton recently began his professional career with the Idaho Falls Chukars, a rookie-league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

  • Lady Vandal Shootout

    During the shootout last Wednesday, which was the final home shootout for either gender this summer, the Lady Vandals found success, as they prepare for a breakout year.

  • Sports Briefs (July 7)

    Alumni softball game is Thursday

    The Vandalia alumni softball game will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m.

    The game will be played on the Vandalia high school softball field.

    Vandalia's high school team will play its final home game of the summer season on Thursday, July 21, against Greenville. Next Thursday, the Lady Vandals play at Greenville, and they will play in the Decatur League Tournament from July 20-23.

  • Kids Fishing Tournament

    The Vandalia Sport Fishing and Conservation Club held a Kids Fishing Tournament on Vandalia Lake on Saturday, June 11.

    Forty kids took part in the tournament and combined to catch  481 fish. The winners are pictured.
