  • Senior Spotlight: Morgan Miller

ST. ELMO – Much like when the blades of a windmill rotate in the breeze, when Ramsey senior Morgan Miller winds up to spike down a kill or serve an ace, there is a certain energy that can be created.

And while the electricity created by a windmill can be quantified, the energy Miller creates with a big play or a word of encouragement is invaluable to the Lady Rams.

  • Vandals take down Roxana for...

The Vandals had three scores of at least 50 yards last Friday while piling up more than 300 rushing yards in a 42-6 rout of Roxana to earn their seventh straight homecoming victory.

Senior Levi Ulmer broke free for touchdown runs of 57 and 50 yards en route to a 132-yard effort for the game, and fellow senior Bryan Hosick dashed to the end zone on a 60-yard play as part of his 105-yard night.

Luke Smith, a junior, also had a 48-yard run, and Hosick added a 34-yard scamper during the home opener.

  • St. Elmo tops Brownstown at...

BROWNSTOWN – St. Elmo swept all three games at the fifth annual Volley for a Cure game against Brownstown on Tuesday.

    The Lady Eagles won the varsity contest, 25-19, 17-25, 25-18,  the JV match, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, and the freshmen/sophomore match, 25-11, 25-16.

Both coaches, however, knew they were playing for more than wins and losses, as all proceeds from the game went to cancer research.

  • Lady Vandals top Piasa,...

The Vandalia High School volleyball team put last Tuesday’s loss at Carlinville behind them two days later, storming by Piasa, 25-5, 25-15, last Thursday night to get back on the winning side.

“It was huge,” said coach Allison Smith. “We worked really hard yesterday in practice on the little things that have hurt us so far this year.”

Those particulars – such as maintaining effort, moving on defense and serving aggressively – were all displayed during the win against the Lady Birds.
