The South Central girls basketball team picked up its sixth win of the season to move to 6-0 on Monday night, and became the only remaining undefeated team in Fayette County.

South Central downed Sandoval, 53-38, on Monday thanks to double-digit performances by Audrey Matheny and Macie Cain. Matheny had 17 points and nine rebounds and Cain had 16 points.

The Lady Cougars outscored their opponent 15-6 in  the second quarter to take a 30-19 lead into the half. The onslaught would continue into the third, as Sandoval was outscored 22-4.

For the second time in a little more than a week, Brownstown  picked up a dominating win over Sandoval. On Tuesday night, the Bombers hit 24 free throws enroute to a 72-46 win.

The Bombers went to the free-throw line 41 times on the night, shooting 59 percent.

"We need some work on it (free-throw shooting)," Brownstown coach Terry Pruemer said. "We've done a lot of other things and not concentrated on foul shots. To our credit, we got to the line quite a bit."

The day before Thanksgiving, it was brother against brother for the first of three meetings this season between Patoka, coached by Joe Eddy, and Ramsey, coached by Bill Eddy.

It would be Joe Eddy who would come out on top in the first Fayette County civil war of the season, as Patoka won 55-49.

Drew Baldrige scored 23 points and was 9-for-16 from the free-throw line for the Warriors.

Andy Carter of Ramsey had a season-high 26 points as he drained four three-pointers.

Vandalia Community High School senior Will Cowger is a big guy. At 6 feet 3 inches and 230 pounds, he stands out from the crowd. His size isn’t the only thing that separates him from the rest, though. Cowger is a three-sport star at VCHS. In the fall he’s under the lights on the football field, in the winter he’s on the hardwood of the basketball court and in the spring he’s under the sun, in the shot put ring.

Even with the demands of his athletic schedule, Cowger maintains a 4.0 in the classroom and is currently at the top of his class.
