  • St. Elmo 1-1 in NTC Tournament

    St. Elmo senior Garrett Bartels had a hit in each of the first two games of the National Trail Conference Tournament, including one last Friday during an eight-inning, 2-1 win against Beecher City.

    Senior Connor Beasley (6-3) struck out 11 batters over eight innings to earn the win, and Dalton Parks doubled and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

    On Monday, the Eagles traveled to St. Anthony and lost, 9-1.

  • YMCA is free to everyone this...

    The Family YMCA of Fayette County will be open for free to non-members from Friday- Monday during Autumn Family Fun Days.

    In addition to free access to the facility, the YMCA will be offering hour-long training sessions for children and adults. The sessions are open to members and non-members.

    Any child who participates in  all of the activities will be entered into a drawing for a $75 gift card to Wal-Mart and a three-month long family membership to the YMCA.

  • VYO goes 3-1 at Greenville

    The Vandalia VYO football teams went 3-1 at Greenville on Saturday.

    The fifth-graders won, 12-6.

    The sixth-graders won, 20-8.

    The seventh-graders lost, 48-36.

    The eighth-graders won, 40-28.

    The Jr. Vandals will be home this Saturday against Litchfield in the final games of the season. The first game begins at 11 a.m.

  • Vandals become playoff eligible...

    The touchdowns just kept piling up for the Vandals, and the game ended with the team becoming elibigle for the state playoffs.

    Senior Luke Smith scored three times to help Vandalia take a 42-0 lead at halftime, and the Vandals' JV players played most of the second half to wrap up a 48-6 win, the fifth of the season.

    With another victory, the Vandals (5-1) will be assured a spot in the playoffs, though any team from the South Central Conference with five wins typically gets in.

  • Lady Vandals win Volley for the...

    GREENVILLE — Though the overall meaning of the night far exceeded the volleyball game, the Lady Vandals were able to win Thursday's Volley for the Cure match at Greenville, 25-17, 13-25, 25-7.

    Vandalia (17-1, 7-0 SCC) slipped in the second set, but came back with a strong showing in the third set, winning by the largest margin of victory in a single set on the season.

    Senior Sierah Ruffner had nine kills to lead the Lady Vandals, and senior RaeChelle Leiken added eight. Leiken and sophomore Ally Sasse each had four service aces.

  • Cougars undefeated in first NTC...

    South Central finished its first season in the National Trail Conference undefeated after defeating Windsor, 10-0, on Thursday.

    The Cougars have a 9-0 conference record.

    Seniors Dan Diss and Shawn Meyer combined to throw a one-hitter, striking out 10.

    Dylan Smith was 2-for-2, with two RBI, and Kyle Bray was 1-for-3, with a double and two RBI.

    South Central next plays on Monday in the NTC Tournament in Kinmundy.

  • Changes to area sports schedule

    Due to the recent rains, several games have been rescheduled around the area.

    So far reported are:

    •South Central baseball vs. Windsor is now on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. in Kinmundy.

    •St. Elmo baseball vs. Neoga is now on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. -- THIS GAME HAS BEEN CANCELED

    •Vandalia soccer vs. Greenville is now on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m.

  • NTC Tournament schedule released

    The schedule for this season's National Trail Conference baseball tournament has been released.

    Games will start on Friday, with two local teams in action.

    South Central has the No. 1 seed in the event.
