Freshmen Ryne Lipsey (106) and Dalton Blankenship (132); sophomore C.J. Runkel (138); and seniors Daniel Edwards (152), Dayin Godberson (182) and Levi Ulmer (195) each took first-place honors.

Junior Seth Purcell (145) and senior Anthony Fladeland (285) placed second, while junior Tyler Dagen (126) took third.

  • Senior Spotlight: Harley Tompkins

MULBERRY GROVE – When she isn’t feeling so good about pushing herself while training or at practice, senior Harley Tompkins just reminds herself of one thing.

This spring will be the last chance to make the state tournament.

That inner drive has helped the Mulberry Grove softball standout train for the upcoming season as hard as anyone, and it also helped land her a spot on Parkland College’s squad in the springs of 2013 and 2014.

Fortunately for her, when she begins playing there, the winning has a good chance to continue.

  • Wrestlers take third in final...

LITCHFIELD – Senior Dayin Godberson won an individual championship at 182 pounds to lead eight wrestlers who finished in the top six, as the Vandals placed third at Saturday’s Litchfield Invitational.

Godberson, who also won the 182-pound weight class at the Civic Memorial Tournament earlier this season, scored the first takedown of his match against Peter Schlafly, the top seed from MICDS.

  • Turnovers, rebounds hurt Vandals...

Vandalia and Pana both scored a lot of points and committed a lot of turnovers during Tuesday’s game, but the Panthers gained the edge in rebounding to give them a 65-60 road victory.

The teams combined for 51 turnovers (27 for Pana and 24 for Vandalia) throughout the game, but it was Pana’s ability to grab offensive rebounds that hurt the Vandals the most.

Pana (18-2) scored 16 second-chance points from 12 offensive rebounds, including five points off of two of those boards in the final 2:22 of the game.
