    The Vandalia Junior High School seventh-grade volleyball team placed fourth in the eight-team Edwardsville Tournament on Saturday.
    The scores were:
    • VJHS defeated Quincy, 25-20, 25-20.
    • VJHS lost to Edwardsville Liberty, 1-25, 21-25.
    • VJHS defeated Gillespie, 25-17, 25-16.
    • VJHS lost to Roxana, 25-21, 25-27, 3-15.

    One night after a bucket by Nathan Casey with 1.5 seconds on the clock gave them a win over Raymond-Lincolnwood, Vandalia breezed past Edinburg on Saturday to take second place in the Morrisonville Mohawk Tournament.

    Altamont held a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and were never headed in a 55-44 win over Brownstown-St. Elmo last Thursday.

  • Cougars fall to Dieterich

    Four South Central players scored in double figures on Saturday, but the Cougars were handed a 75-68 loss by Dieterich.
    Ryan McCown scored 15 points to lead the Cougars, and Logan Lotz, Trent Geiler and Hunter Brandt each tallied 14.
    Campton Callaway scored 32 points to lead Dieterich.
    South Central – Lotz 6 2-2 14, Roberts 1 0-1 2, Fox 3 0-0 7, Geiler 5 1-4 14, Brandt 4 4-4 14, Blomberg 1 0-0 2, McCown 5 3-8 15, Matheny 0 0-0 0.

    Vandalia’s wrestlers picked up easy wins over Robinson and Murphysboro, then came from behind to defeat Monticello in a home quadrangular on Saturday.

    The Vandalia Junior High School eighth-grade volleyball team opened its season on Tuesady with a 25-13, 25-13 win over Shelbyville.
    The seventh-graders lost their opener, 3-25, 11-25.
    The seventh-grade squad plays in the Edwardsville Tournament this Saturday, and the Lady Vandals host Altamont next Tuesday afternoon.

  • Seventh-graders now 17-2

    Vandalia’s seventh-grade boys pounded Greenville, 43-14, on Tuesday to improve to 6-0 in conference play at 17-2 overall.
    Devin Peebles led the Vandals with 16 points.
    Vandalia – Peebles 7 2-2 16, Hagy 2 2-2 8, Politte 2 0-0 6, Well 2 0-0 6, McNutt 2 0-0 4, White 1 0-0 2, Nestrick 0 1-2 1.
    Three-pointers – Hagy 2, Politte 2, Well 2.
    Last Thursday, the Vandals overwhelmed Litchfield 49-6, with Peebles scoring 16 and Aiden Politte adding 13.
