    Vandalia’s wrestlers geared up for regional competition this Saturday in Lawrenceville by recording a fourth-place finish at the Litchfield Invitational.
    The Vandals ended the two-day tournament with 152.50, finishing behind Lena Winslow (221), Orion (172) and Auburn (155).
    Individually, the Vandals had three second-place finishes, three thirds, one fourth-place finish and two sixth places.
    Taking second were Tanner Swain at 120 pounds, Jarrett Paslay at 126 and Garrett Stewart at 182.

    Vandalia led Pana for three quarters of Tuesday’s non-conference matchup in Pana, but the Panthers sent the game into overtime with a basket at the end of regulation.

    Markus Isaiah and Drew Thompson combined for 24 points and made crucial free throws late as the Vandalia Junior High School eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Greenville for the Vandalia Regional title on Tuesday night.

    As the Millikin University men’s track team opened its indoor season recently, a Vandalia Community High School graduate made an impressive debut.
    Ethan Meyer, a 2016 VCHS graduate, ran the 300 meets in 38.26 seconds, which was the school’s eighth-best time in that event. Meyer finished 15th in the event.

    A Vandalia woman is among the Illinois High School Association’s Officials of the Year.
    Ruth Holliday of Vandalia was announced as the Official of the Year in girls volleyball.
    Holliday and Officials of the Year in other IHSA sports will be recognized at a banquet held on Saturday, July 22, at Embassy Suites in East Peoria.

  • Boys bowling team splits with...

    The Vandalia boys bowling team outscored Taylorville in five of six games in recording a split last week.
    On Wednesday at Pana, the VCHS squad won the first game, 848-772, and the second game, 967-799, but lost the third game by 272 pins, 1,039-767, giving Taylorville the match win.
    Nic Lutz rolled a 605 series to lead the Vandalia squad.

  • Lady Vandals avenge earlier loss...

    Midway through the fourth quarter of the Lady Vandals’ home contest with Pana, the Lady Panthers sent Anna Miller to the free-throw line in a one-and-one situation. Miller made both of those to give Vandalia a 46-45 lead.
