  • Wrestlers at 8-2 after going 2-1

    The Vandalia wrestling team improved to 8-2 on the season on Friday, winning two of three matches at the Whitfield Quad in a St. Louis suburb.

    Vandal wrestlers defeated the Missouri squads from Festus, 59-24, and Vianney, 52-20, and lost to perennial Missouri powerhouse Whitfield, 59-15.

    St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced to the title game of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament last Thursday, but had to wait six days to face its opponent.

  • Hillsboro tops Lady Vandals

    Sammi Matoush scored 35 points to lead Hillsboro to a 67-38 win over the Lady Vandals last Thursday at Vandalia.

  • SEB, CHBC winners at St. Elmo

    St. Elmo/Brownstown and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City were winners on Tuesday, the first night of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.
    The Eagles defeated Clay City, 91-19,  and CHBC edged Mulberry Grove, 67-64.
    The tournament continued on Wednesday night with Cumberland and Ramsey meeting at 6:15 p.m., followed by Vandalia versus South Central.
    The tournament continues into Saturday.

  • Vandals top Miners by 29 in road...

    Using its fast-paced offense from start to finish, the Vandals beat conference foe Gillespie by almost 30 points on their home court.

  • Junior High

    Vandalia’s seventh- and eighth-grade squads recorded wins over South Central on Monday.
    Connor Ray scored 20 and Chase Laack added nine as the seventh-graders won 43-32.
    Markus Isaiah and Drew Thompson had 18 and 11 points, respectively as the eighth-graders posted a 50-32 win.
    The seventh-graders improved to 2-13 on the season, and the eighth-graders are now 11-1.

    Vandalia’s seventh-graders lost to Altamont Lutheran and Bethalto Trimpe at their tournament on Saturday.
    Altamont Lutheran defeated the Junior Vandals, 40-25.

    Vandalia’s wrestlers improved to 6-1 by picking up five wins in the past week.

  • BSE second at CHBC Tourney, Lady...

    Brownstown/St. Elmo took second place in the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thanksgiving Tournament, falling to Neoga, 63-56, in the championship game.
    The Lady Bombers took a 7-5 lead after one quarter and by one, 19-18, at halftime. However, Neoga took the lead for good by outscoring BSE 24-13 in the third quarter.
    BSE outscored Neoga in the final stanza, but a 24-21 edge wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
    Dana Shelton led BSE with 16 points and her sister, Deana, added 13. Claire Wilhour was also in double figures with 10.

  • Vandals cruise past MG in opener

    Nathan Casey and Marcus Zimmerman each scored 10 points as the Vandals built up an early lead against Mulberry Grove and coasted to a 85-42 win in their season opener on Tuesday night.

  • Wrestlers open season with win

    With a number of its wrestlers competing at the varsity level for the first time, Vandalia used five pins to open its season with a win on Tuesday.
