  • Lady Vandals win on Senior Night

    On the night that they honored their seniors, the Lady Vandals dispatched Gillespie in two games on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-19.
    The win puts the Lady Vandals at 17-10 on the season and 5-3 in South Central Conference play.
    Honored prior to the match, with their parents, were seniors Sydney Austin, Emalee Hall, Bailey Younker, Taylor Gelsinger, Shelbi Stewart, Katie Tarkington and Carlie Wilkerson.

  • Vandals roll to 55-8 win over...

    Recovering from an early defensive lapse and fumble, the Vandals rolled to an easy win against Roxana and improved to 6-2 on Friday.

  • Trapping permits

    The Illinois Dept of Natural Resources will conduct a public drawing at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 for the allocation of trapping permits for Ramsey Lake State Park.
    Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the site office, located approximately two miles northwest of Ramsey.
    Trapping will be permitted in the designated areas from the statewide opening until Jan. 25 and include the extended spring season for mink and muskrat through Feb. 15 and beaver and otter trapping, which are allowed through March 31.

  • Baseball

    South Central won the consolation game at the National Trail Conference Tournament in Effingham on Saturday, defeating Neoga, 11-3.
    The Cougars scored two runs in the first inning and five more in the second to jump out to an early 7-1 lead and closed out their scoring with one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
    Trent Geiler got the win, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking four. He also went 3-for-3 with a home run and scored three times.

    The eighth-grade Lady Vandals lot to Pana on Tuesday, 28-8.
    Vandalia – Abby Durbin 2, Lexi Wehrle 4, Madison Ferguson 2.
    Last Thursday, the eighth-graders defeated Effingham Sacred Heart, 18-14.
    Vandalia – Durbin 2, Sydney Miller 2, Wehrle 6, Jadie Keck 2, Riely Ward 1, Ferguson 4.
    Last Wednesday, the eighth-graders lost to Altamont, 29-19.
    Vandalia – Durbin 2, Miller 6, Wehrle 4, Keck 2, Ward 2.

  • Soccer

    The Vandals lost, 7-0, at Raymond-Lincolnwood last Wednesday.
    Daniel Durbin-Flack had 10 saves in goal for Vandalia.

  • Shulman, Dunn fail to advance to...

    Two Vandalia golfers who competed in the IHSA Sectional Tournament were unable to advance to the state competition.
    Scott Shulman shot an 84 at Governors Run in Carlyle, three strokes off of the top 10 advancing to the state golf tournament.
    Bryce Dunn shot an 84 at Carlyle on Tuesday.
    Nathaniel Weaver also qualified for the sectional tournament, but was unable to compete because he was performing at the IMEA music competition in Effingham.
    Austyn Downen, a McLeansboro junior, was the sectional medalist with an 74.

  • Volleyball

    The Lady Vandals improved to 16-9 on the season on Tuesday with a three-game win against Effingham St. Anthony, 19-25, 26-24, 25-17.
    Vandalia – McNary 1 dig, 3 points; Hall 2 aces, 7 digs, 6 points; Younker 3 kills, 3 digs, 4 points; C. Wilkerson 1 ace, 5 kills, 4 digs, 10 points; Stewart 1 ace, 6 points; Austin 1 ace, 3 digs, 9 points; Miller 2 kills; Tarkington 3 kills, 3 blocks, 4 digs, 4 points; Kern 2 kills, 2 blocks; Jackson 1 kill, 1 block.
    The JV Lady Vandals won in two games, 25-20, 25-14, and the freshmen won in three games, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15.

  • Vandalia native named to USA...

    Vandalia native Josie Barnes has been named to the United States team for the World Championship in Las Vegas, Nev., in November.

    The junior varsity Vandals remained undefeated with a 28-8 win over Carlinville on Monday night.
