    Brownstown/St. Elmo outhit Pana, 8-7, and took advantage of three Panther errors to record a 10-7 win at Pana last Thursday.
    Dalton Denton, Caleb Atwood, Wade Ireland and Jeffrey Kelly each had two RBIs for the Bombers, who improved to 2-6 on the season.
    Bryton Pruett picked up the win, giving up seven hits and four runs while striking out three and walking two in 4 1/3 innings. Jeffrey Kelly struck out two in an inning of work to earn a save.

    Two members of the local fastpitch softball team that won two national championships joined four other members of that team in the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame on Saturday.
    Marty Cloe and Brad Sturdy were inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining teammates Rich Well, Nick Casey, Alan Meinhart and Bob Nagel. The Freight is also in the Hall of Fame.
    Cloe, from a family of fastpitch hurlers from Pana, appeared in 248 games with the Freight, compiling a record of 166-45. Also a designated hitter, he batted .313 for the local team.

  • Three Cougars combine for three-...

    Ryan Matheny, Trevor Markley and Trent Geiler combined for a three-hitter in South Central’s 10-0 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown last Wednesday.
    Matheny gave up two hits in three innings, Markley held BSE hitless over two innings and Geiler allowed one hit in one inning of work.
    Markley was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Geiler was 3-for-4 with one RBI.

  • BSE golf scramble April 23

    Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers Athletics will hold a two-man scramble on Saturday, April 23, to raise funds for a weight room and equipment.
    The golf scramble will be held at St. Elmo Golf Club, with a 12:30 tee-off.
    The team entry fee of $70, or $35 for individuals, covers 18 holes and a golf cart, and pork burgers and hot dogs. Cash prizes and apparel will be given away.
    Checks are to made payable to: Brownstown High School.
    Registrations are being accepted through April 17.
