  • Four Vandals, one Lady Vandal...

    Five Vandals and one Lady Vandal have been given all-conference recognition by South Central Conference coaches.
    Five Vandals were picked for the SCC baseball squad, with senior Richie Well picked for first-team honors at two positions – pitcher and infielder.
    Also named to the first team were sophomore Nathan Casey, at the catcher position, and senior Kelly Jones, one of three outfielders.
    Junior Marcus Zimmerman is a second-team outfielder, and senior Alec Schroeder is a third-team infielder.

    A hamstring injury kept Curtis Gordon, the defending state champion in the Class 1A pole vault, from competing in the pole vault for most of the regular track season.

  • Brownstown/St. Elmo falls in...

    Woodlawn scored twice in the fifth inning of the IHSA Regional contest at Brownstown to record a 5-3 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo to end the Bombers season.
    The Bombers scored one run in each of the first two innings and tied the game at three in the bottom of the fourth before Woodlawn crossed the plate twice in the fifth.
    Nate Philpot led the Bombers by going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
    Isaac Maxey, Lewis Brown, Caleb Atwood and Hunter Strauch each had one hit.

  • Three area softball teams...

    Three area softball teams saw their seasons come to an end with losses in regional play.
    The Lady Vandals closed out the year with a 15-1 loss to Pana on Monday at the Macon Meridian Regional. At the Altamont Regional on Tuesday, Ramsey lost to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 16-0, St. Elmo/Brownstown lost to Altamont, 9-8, with Altamont scoring the winning run in the ninth inning of the extra-inning contest.
    Mulberry Grove was to face Marissa in the Mulberry Grove Regional and South Central was to play Clay City in the Woodlawn Regional, both on Wednesday.

    The Egyptian-Illini Conference announced its all-conference softball team on Monday.
    Receiving all-conference honors were Mackenzie Parkison, Tessa Philpot and Katelyn Maxey of St. Elmo/Brownstown, Madison Compton and Danielle Hill of Ramsey, Alyssa Dothager and Makayla Dothager of Mulberry Grove, and Kylee Wheeler, Bella Doty and Sarah Kirchhofer of Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
    Given honorable mention were Trista Koertge and Jenna Koonce of Mulberry Grove, Natalie Oberlink of St. Elmo/Brownstown and Connie Schackmann of Ramsey.
     

  • Ramsey defeats Lady Vandals

    The Lady Vandals had the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate twice on Tuesday at Ramsey, but failed to capitalize, falling 7-3.

  • Vandals tie season record mark

    By beating Roxana on Monday, the Vandalia Vandals both tied the record for wins in a season in more than 50 years and clinched at least a share of the South Central Conference crown.
