  • YMCA offers summer, winter...

    Local youth are invited to participate in youth teams tennis offered by the Family YMCA of Fayette County.
    Using the USTA Youth Tennis play format, participants ages 5-14 use modified equipment and courts, modified to their age and size, making it easier to play, rally and succeed from the start.
    Summer sessions, held at Vandalia Community High School, are held at 7 p.m. for ages 5-10 and 8 p.m. for ages 11-14, from July 17-Aug. 21.
    Winter sessions, held at the Family YMCA on Rock Island Avenue, will run from Nov. 6-Dec. 11.

  • Family YMCA offering water...

    The Family YMCA of Fayette County is again holding a water aerobics class.
    Lynn Sefton, who has taught water aerobics for the past 20 years, is the instructor for the class, which will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 27-Aug. 31, at the Vandalia Park District Swimming Pool.
    The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $50 for non-members, and a daily session fee of $5 is being offered. The class is open to ages 2 and above.

  • VCHS Shootouts Under Way

    The first of four shootouts this month at Vandalia Community High School was held on Monday and Tuesday.

    More two-day shootouts are being held on Monday and Tuesday the next three weeks. In the first photo, Vandal Bryce Dunn guards a Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City player on Monday morning. Behind Dunn is teammate Ethan Ferguson. In the second photo, Blake Morrison brings the ball upcourt against CHBC. In the tournament phase of the 17-team shootout on Tuesday, Mt. Carmel defeated Effingham St. Anthony in the championship game.

  • VCHS Volleyball Camp

    Coach Amber Connor and the Vandalia Community High School volleyball team held a volleyball camp last week at VCHS.

    Girls in grades 3-5 (first photo) and 6-8 (second photo) participated in sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and the VCHS volleyball players (third photo)had a separate camp in the afternoon on those days. The younger girls learned fundamentals and participated in drills.
