  • Sr. Legion goes 2-2 in past week...

VANDALIA – Battling one of the better Sr. Legion teams in the region, Post 95 coach Mark Lewis knew that his team would need to limit its mistakes and take advantage of every opportunity it had.

For the first two innings on Tuesday, that went pretty well, but over the last seven, it was Shelby County that took over the game.

Vandalia slugged a pair of home runs early in the game, but its pitchers allowed 17 batters to reach base via a walk or hit by pitch to help Shelby County to a 19-6 nine-inning victory at Vandalia Mutual Field.

  • Three local teams play in...

VANDALIA – Local teams provided plenty of excitement on the first day of the second Vandal shootout, as both St. Elmo and Patoka battled Vandalia to close results.

The Vandals needed overtime to beat Patoka, 45-43, in an afternoon game at Vandalia Junior High last Thursday, with rising senior Carson Smith knocking down a jumper on the first possession of the extra period.

VANDALIA – Plenty of runs were scored in Jr. Legion contests involving Vandalia in the past week, with 71 runners crossing the plate in three games since last Wednesday.

Only 29 of those runs were produced by Post 95, which went 1-2 over that stretch to move its record to 5-7 (0-2 District).

In a doubleheader against Altamont last Thursday, Vandalia split the contests, losing, 10-0, in game one before winning, 17-6, in game two.

  • Lady Vandals, alumni split...

VANDALIA – The Lady Vandals battled the alumni for the third time of the summer on Tuesday, and by splitting a doubleheader, each side now has a 3-3 record.

Megan Godoyo struck out 11 and the Lady Vandals scored in three different innings to take a 4-1 victory in the first game.

Kylie Sellers scored in both the first and third innings, while Brandy Protz also crossed the plate in the third and Gracie Morrison scored in the fourth.

  • Lady Vandals go 2-1 at shootout

VANDALIA – Though they were just exhibition games, incoming freshman Emma Meyer’s play suggested that something more was at stake at Tuesday’s Lady Vandal Shootout.

And that competitiveness is only going to make the Lady Vandals better once basketball season starts.

Meyer scored 35 points to lead Vandalia in scoring in a three-game shootout on Tuesday afternoon, leading the Lady Vandals to a 2-1 mark in the event.

Vandalia’s varsity and JV teams will be in action, along with St. Elmo/Brownstown in the 19-team event.
