  • Post 95 goes 2-2 at Greenville College Jr. Legion Tournament

    VANDALIA – Post 95 took a tough loss in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Breese.

    Noah Murray had Vandalia’s lone hit and Breese had an eight-run first and a six-run fifth to take a 15-0 win.

    Nic Hollenkamp retired 15 straight batters after Murray led off the bottom of the first with an infield single and Austin Hoehn drew a five-pitch walk.

  • Post 95 reaches semis of Firecracker Classic

    Hitless games have been few and far between for Vandalia’s Brett Mueller this season.

    And after going hitless for back-to-back games for the first time in Sr. Legion action this summer, he bounced back with a hit in the semifinals of the 29th annual Mattoon Firecracker Classic.

    That single, however, was one of just four for Post 95 last Saturday, as Vandalia lost back-to-back games for the first time this season after being shut down, 4-0, by eventual tournament champion Mattoon.

  • Post 95 wins another District game

    VANDALIA – Jacob Behrends remained perfect with another complete game, Noah Powless drove in three runs and Post 95 rebounded from its first back-to-back losses with a 7-2 win against Salem in Sr. Legion District play.

    Behrends fired his second straight complete game, striking out seven to earn his third win in District action and move his overall record to 6-0.

    “He’s been throwing strikes like crazy,” said outfielder Austin Schwarm. “A big part of his success is that he doesn’t walk many people.”

  • Vandals have tough time in shootout

    The Vandals closed the home portion of the summer season with just one win last Thursday and Friday in the final Vandal Shootout.

    Vandalia beat St. Elmo/Brownstown, 59-41, in pool play for its lone victory. The Vandals lost to Litchfield, 34-25, in the first round of the tournament, after having won the first round game in the three previous events this summer.

    Vandalia finished the final shootout at 1-6, and closed the summer at 9-23.

    Nashville topped Princeton, Ind., 32-13 to win the final shootout.

  • Jr. Legion headed to Greenville College tournament

    Vandalia will spend the weekend at the Greenville College Jr. Legion Tournament, playing two games this Friday and Saturday in the inaugural event.

    Post 95 is in Pool A, and will face Shelby County at noon on Friday and take on Highland at 8 p.m. Both games will be played at Robert E. Smith Field on the campus of Greenville College.

    On Saturday, Vandalia meets Teutopolis at 1 p.m. and Carlyle at 5 p.m., with both games at Greenville High School.

    Winners of each pool will meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Robert E. Smith Field.

    The Vandalia High School wrestling team recently traveled to the Iron Sharpens Iron Camp in DeWitt, Iowa. The Vandals placed fifth among more than 30 teams in the camp's dual team tournament.

  • Post 95 set to tackle Firecracker Classic

    Vandalia will travel to its second tournament of the summer this week, the annual Mattoon Firecracker Classic.

    Post 95 will have at least four games in the 29th annual Sr. Legion event, and play began on Wednesday and continues through Saturday. Pool play will conclude on Friday.

  • Vandals oust SEB at Vandal Shootout

    VANDALIA – For the third time this summer, Vandalia made the quarterfinals of the tournament in a Vandal Shootout.

    A late comeback try against Olney came five points short on Tuesday afternoon, as the Tigers squeaked out a 31-26 victory.
