  • Post 95 goes 2-2 at Greenville Tournament

    GREENVILLE – Post 95’s hopes of winning the Greenville College Sr. Legion Tournament were quickly dashed when eventual second-place finisher Florissant (Mo.) won the opening game 10-2.

    But after winning the next two games with strong efforts from the pitcher’s mound, Vandalia was hoping to salvage a 3-1 finish by beating New Baden for a second time this season.

    Post 95, however, had just two hits on offense, and its pitchers struggled to keep New Baden runners off base in an 8-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Greenville High School.

  • Lady Vandals 2nd in summer tourney

    VANDALIA – Vandalia continued its summer volleyball schedule with a second-place finish to Effingham in its own tournament on Monday.

    The Lady Vandals defeated Olney in the semifinals of the playoff bracket, but lost a close match to Effingham in the title game to earn its second second-place finish of the summer. The team will play in seven tournaments during the summer.

    Vandalia held several leads against Effingham, but the Lady Hearts picked up five kills in the final 10 points to earn a 19-17 set win.

  • Girls take third in lone home shootout

    VANDALIA – Rising sophomore Emma Meyer scored 13 points, and the Lady Vandals held Altamont scoreless for the first 12:16 on their way to a 30-18 win in the third-place game of Tuesday afternoon’s Lady Vandal Shootout.

    Rising junior Karlie Bright made three straight layups as part of a 14-0 run to start the game, which featured two 16-minute halves, before Altamont made a pair of free throws with 3:44 left on the clock.

    Those shots sparked a 6-0 run for the Lady Indians, who kept Vandalia off of the board for the final 5:14 of the first half.

  • Vandals again finish tournament at 1-1

    VANDALIA – Though their overall record was worse, the Vandals still made the quarterfinals of the tournament in the second Vandal Shootout of the summer.

    Vandalia went 1-1 in tournament play last Friday for the second straight shootout, but went 2-6 overall, a drop from the 3-5 mark in the summer-opening event.

    In the tournament’s opening round, the Vandals knocked off Wayne City, 29-23.

  • Vandalia, SEB in third shootout

    Two local teams will be among 15 to take to the courts in the third Vandal Shootout of the summer, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday at the four schools in the Vandalia district.

    Vandalia’s varsity and junior varsity squads will be in the field, as will St. Elmo/Brownstown.

    Following pool play on Tuesday, a tournament will be played in the early afternoon. Games will be played at Vandalia Community High School, Vandalia Junior High School, Vandalia Elementary School and Jefferson Primary School.

  • Schaal Ks 15 in sweep of Centralia

    VANDALIA – Zach Schaal struck out 15 and was one of three players with two RBI as Post 95 broke a four-game losing streak with a 7-2 win against Centralia in the first game of Tuesday’s Jr. Legion doubleheader.

    Schaal struck out at least one batter per inning, and three times recorded three punch outs in an inning to even his season record at 2-2.

  • Girls basketball golf outing is Friday

    The Vandalia Community High School girls basketball team will hold a golf outing this Friday at Vandalia Country Club.

    For the morning session, sign-up will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., and for the afternoon session, sign-up will begin at 12:30 p.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

    Cost is $50 per person, or $200 for a team. Registration cost includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart and lunch.

    All proceeds will benefit the Lady Vandals.

  • Greenville Tournament next up for Post 95

    Post 95 will play two home games as part of this weekend’s Greenville College Sr. Legion Tournament.

    Three tournament games will be played at Vandalia Mutual Field on Friday night, with Post 95 meeting Florissant at 4 p.m. and Shelby County at 8 p.m. In between will be Collinsville and Effingham at 6 p.m.

    On Saturday, Vandalia will play Bluford at 2 p.m. at Robert E. Smith Field on the campus of Greenville College and then take on New Baden at 5 p.m. at Greenville High School. Vandalia beat New Baden, 5-4, earlier this month.

  • Vandalia Jr. Legion squad gets pair of weekend victories

    Vandalia’s Jr. Legion squad picked up a pair of wins over this past weekend, splitting two doubleheaders.

    Post 95 fought through the rain to pick up a 6-5 win against Dieterich last Saturday, but dropped the second game, 11-1.

    Vandalia then played a doubleheader at Jerseyville on Sunday, falling to Quincy, 11-0, in game one, but beating Jerseyville, 4-1, in game two.

    Post 95 travels to Teutopolis on Thursday and Carlyle on Friday before hosting Centralia next Tuesday. All dates are 6 p.m. doubleheaders.

  • Vandals go 1-1 in shootout tourney

    VANDALIA – Six Vandals got into the scoring column in the team’s first tournament game in Tuesday’s summer-opening Vandal Shootout, but Vandalia would run into a tough Breese Central team in the second round to end its shootout with an 3-5 overall record.

    Rising senior Collin Nestleroad led the Vandals with nine points in a 25-19 win against Decatur Lutheran School Association in a running clock, 20-minute game.
