Working without a timeout and facing a 74-yard field with just over two minutes left in the game, the Vandals ran a nearly flawless 2-minute drill that culminated with a 6-yard touchdown catch by senior Matt Hoffman with 36.7 seconds left in the game.

  • St. Elmo falls in semis

ST. ELMO – Already trailing by six runs when a botched defensive play allowed St. Anthony’s runners to advance in the bottom of the sixth, it looked as if the St. Elmo Eagles were on the verge of putting themselves too far behind.
But a quick throw to home saved the Eagles from digging themselves a deeper hole in the semifinals of the Illinois Elementary School Association’s regional junior high softball tournament Monday night.
