  • South Central volleyball match changes venue

    The South Central High School volleyball team will play tonight's match against the Clay City/Noble co-op at Noble instead of Clay City as the original schedule indicated.

    The freshmen/sophomore game will start at 5:15 p.m. with the JV and varsity games to follow.

  • Vandalia falls to Carlinville 41-7

    The Vandalia High School football team fell to Carlinville High School 41-7 Friday night. The Vandals' lone score came on a a 13-yard sweep play by Nate Henna with 11:52 left in the game.

    A full recap will appear in Thursday's edition of The Leader-Union.

  • South Central/Webber Township baseball to play single game

    Yesterday, South Central High School and Webber Township High School scheduled a doubleheader for this evening, but due to some transportation difficulties, the teams will now play a single game at 7 p.m. as originally scheduled.

  • Vandalia/Effingham soccer match cancelled

    The Vandalia High School soccer match scheduled against Effingham this afternoon has been cancelled due to inclement field conditions. This match will not be rescheduled.

  • Brownstown/South Central baseball cancelled

    Tonight's high school baseball game between Brownstown and South Central has been cancelled due to poor field conditions at Kinmundy Lions Field.

    South Central will host a doubleheader with Webber Township High School on Friday, starting at 5 p.m. Originally, the two teams were set for a single game at 7 p.m.

  • Venue change for tonight's Vandalia volleyball match

    Tonight's (Sept. 2) volleyball match scheduled between Vandalia High School and Roxana High School will be played at East Alton-Wood River High School instead of Roxana because of poor floor conditions.

    The freshmen will begin the action at 5 p.m., with the JV and varsity games to follow.

  • Local volleyball results (Aug. 26)

    The Brownstown High School volleyball team lost its season opener to Dieterich High School, falling in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-8.
    Bethany Oberlink had three digs, one block and one ace for the Bombers. Morgan Stinebring led the team with two kills and added an ace and three assists.

  • Local baseball results (Aug. 24-30)

    St. Elmo 10

    The St. Elmo baseball team won its first game of the season,  shutting out Sandoval, 10-0, in five innings on Monday.
    Kase Stolte (1-1) went the distance for St. Elmo in its home opener, striking out five while allowing just two hits and one walk.
    Blaine Scholes led the Eagles offensively with a 3-for-4 effort, and Connor Beasley slugged St. Elmo’s first home run of the season. Levi Maxey and Woodsen Savage drove in two runs each.

  • St. Elmo falls to Beecher City, Stew-Stras; defeats Altamont

    The St. Elmo Middle School softball team took a 20-5 lead to the bottom of the sixth, but Beecher City rallied for 19 runs and took Friday’s game 24-21.
    Emily Bone was the only Eagle with two hits, but collectively, the team reached base via a walk or a hit-by-pitch 22 times. Kyrstyn Fitch (0-1) took the loss for St. Elmo.

  • Vandalia tennis squad defeated by Marquette

    The Vandalia girls tennis squad fell to 1-1 last Thursday, falling to Marquette Catholic, 9-0.
