    Bone has best finish for BJHS at state

    A 10th-place finish in the seventh-grade 400-meter dash was the highest any Brownstown Junior High track member finished at the Illinois Elementary Association Class A state meet in Peoria this past weekend.

    Bone finished that race in 1:05.62, and participated in three other events.

    In the 100-meter dash, she finished 38th, with a time of 0:14.69, and in the high jump, she placed 24th, with a jump of 4 feet, 2 inches.

    Patoka Junior High School sent 10 athletes to the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association state meet this past weekend.

    The athletes are pictured. In the front row, from left, are: Amber Gramlick, Taylor Isaak, Cateline Gaston and Joey Sturgeon. In the back are: Ashley Gramlick, Shane Cain, Chandler Murfin, Jered Cain, Garrett Belcher and Lindsey Cain. Isaak placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash, and Ashley Gramlick placed seventh in discus. The other athletes were on relays teams.

  • Myers Earns EIC Scholarship

    Patoka senior Paige Myers (right) was the female winner of the $250 Egyptian-Illini Conference athletic scholarship.

    She is seen with the male winner, Alex Turner, of Cowden-Herrick. To be eligible, the athlete must have completed a combined four varsity seasons in their junior and senior years, while also maintaining a grade-point average of at least 3.3.

  • Schedule changes at South Central

    The regional tournament game between South Central and North Clay softball that was originally scheduled to be played in St. Peter has been moved to Louisville.

    The baseball game between South Central and Flora has been moved from Kinmundy to Flora.

  • UPDATE: Seven Jr. Vandals make state track meet

    PANA -- Seven athletes from Vandalia have advanced to the Illinois Elementary School Association state track meet.

    Eighth-graders qualifying were:

    •Luke Hollinshead, shot put
    •Ryan Bayles, long jump
    •Ben Strobel, 1,600-meter run
    •Allie Holtmann, high jump
    •Johanna Walton, high jump

    Seventh-graders qualifying were:

    •Ethan Meyer, 200-meter dash
    •Jalea Paslay, 800-meter run

  • Hill sisters advance to state meet in discus

    ROBINSON -- Two St. Elmo athletes on Friday advanced to the girls state meet next weekend.

    Senior Abby Hill and her younger sister, freshman Molly Hill, placed first and second in the discus throw at the Class A sectional meet at Robinson on Friday.

    The elder sister threw 108 feet, 2 inches to win the event, while also meeting the state's automatic qualifying standard of 107 feet.

  • Several Patoka Junior High students advance to Saturday's state meet

    The Patoka Junior High track team on Saturday is sending several athletes to the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association state meet in Salem.

  • Hohlt: ‘No doubt we can win a regional’

    Vandalia baseball coach Luke Hohlt said on Thursday that the Vandals can win a regional championship this season.

    “I think there is a good possibility of someone looking past us,” he said. “We aren’t looking past anyone … and I think if we play good baseball, there is no doubt we can win a regional.”
