  • Ramsey JH boys beat Patoka in county battle

    Both the Ramsey Junior High seventh-grade and eighth-grade boys basketball teams defeated Patoka last Thursday.

    The seventh-graders were led by Brady Reiss, who had 11 points, in a 21-17 victory, and the eighth-graders were led by Isac Gann, who nine points, in a 35-16 win.

    Patoka's squad  was defeated by Odin on Monday, 53-25, and by New Horizons on Tuesday, 41-35.

  • SC girls earn first victory of season

    Senior Ashley Pollard went on a scoring flurry in the fourth quarter in helping the South Central High School girls basketball team earn its first victory last Thursday.

    Pollard scored 15 of her game-high 25 points in the final period of a 43-40 back-and-forth win against Midland Trail Conference foe, Webber.

    Not to be ignored, sophomore Macie Cain had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

  • Minus Heilig, Aces drop two EIC games

    The Mulberry Grove  High School boys basketball played without senior Zach Heilig in two games last week.

    Heilig suffered a concussion last Tuesday and missed a 70-40 loss to Christ Our Rock Lutheran last Friday, and a 50-40 loss to Patoka on Tuesday.

    Heilig may play on Friday at Odin.

    A poor second quarter from Mulberry Grove gave CORL all it needed to defeat the Aces last Friday.

    Leading 14-12 after the first, CORL scored 21 points in the second period, while holding the Aces to four points to take a commanding, 35-16, halftime lead.

  • St. Elmo drops season-opener; beats Cowden-Herrick

    A poor second quarter doomed the St. Elmo High School boys basketball team in its season-opener last Friday, as it lost to Neoga, 42-36.

    Junior Jake Mansker led the Eagles with eight points, all of which he scored in the third quarter, when St. Elmo nearly erased an eight-point deficit.

    The Eagles (0-2, 0-2 National Trail Conference) trailed 14-12 after the first period, but only scored two points in the second quarter to fall behind 22-14 at halftime.

  • Flora takes No. 1 seed at VHT; Vandals draw No. 4

    Seeds were selected for the 39th Vandalia Holiday Tournament Wednesday night at a gathering of coaches at the Vandalia Country Club.

    Flora - which won last year's tournament - was a unanimous No. 1 selection for this season's tourney. Wesclin took the No. 2 seed, while Pana and Vandalia used a coinflip to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.

    Fayette County schools also in the tournament: St. Elmo, No. 7 seed; and South Central, No. 10 seed.

    A schedule for the tournament - which runs from Dec. 27-30 - will be announced as soon as possible.

  • Patoka boys 5-2 on season

    The Patoka High School boys basketball team may have lost to Odin last Tuesday, but the final score only determined one of the winners that night.

    All of the proceeds from that game went to the American Cancer Society as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer series. Odin won the battle on the court, 58-33.

    The Warriors followed up that game with a win on Friday, defeating Sandoval, 66-59.

  • Ramsey defeated by CORL in EIC battle

    After its game against Morrisonville was canceled last Friday, the Ramsey High School boys basketball team was defeated by Christ Our Rock Lutheran on Tuesday, 73-56.

    Senior Blake Hadley had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Jordan Johnson (14) and Asa Thomas (13) also scored in double-figures for the Rams, but it was not enough to overcome the stout offense of the Silver Stallions.

    CORL was led by Dylan Burmester (21 points) and Tyler Burmester (18 points).
