Due to the weather, several sporting events have been canceled for Tuesday.

The Vandalia softball game against Effingham has been canceled, as has the track meet in Litchfield, which the Vandalia boys and girls teams were traveling to.

The South Central softball game at Odin has been canceled.

St. Elmo baseball at Altamont and Patoka baseball against Christ Our Rock Lutheran have been canceled.

The South Central softball game scheduled at Altamont for Thursday has been canceled due to poor field conditions. No makeup date has been set at this time.

VANDALIA – Any general baseball fan who is interested in seeing high school players hit a lot of home runs probably will want to find games other than Vandalia’s.

But just because the Vandals won’t be a power-hitting team in 2013, it doesn’t mean that coach Luke Hohlt’s team won’t be scoring runs.

Returning just one home run – from senior Michael Wells – Vandalia will rely heavily on speed, bunting and good contact-hitting to produce runs this season.

TEUTOPOLIS – Geri Reuss was doing good with keeping her emotions under control after losing the final volleyball game of her coaching career.

But when her team emerged from the locker room to thank her for all she had done for them, she couldn’t quite hold back all the tears.

Reuss called it a career after nearly 30 years of coaching last Thursday after the Vandalia eighth-grade volleyball team couldn’t get past Cumberland in a 24-26, 18-25 loss in the finals of the Teutopolis Regional.
