After his team lost to Sandoval to open the Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tournament last Monday, Mulberry Grove coach Chris Johnson said he believed his team could win its next three games in the tournament.

He was almost right, as the Aces defeated Ramsey and the host, and only losing to Patoka by two points.

In the end, Mulberry Grove finished in second place, and senior Harley Steed had been named to the all-tournament team.

The Greenville College Panthers would like to start a streak similar to the one Vandalia grad Laura Hobbie just started.

The Lady Panther has a streak of her own going. It has been five games since Hobbie, a sophomore on the squad, has been out of double figures. In the last two weeks, Hobbie has scored in double figures against MacMurray College, Blackburn College, Webster University and Monmouth College.

With 43.7 seconds left in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Gillespie, Lady Vandals coach Michelle McNary saw an opportunity that would help the team gain its first lead of the afternoon.

Gillespie had just committed its sixth foul of the half, and if the Lady Vandals could continue drawing fouls, she believed they could gain the lead through free-throw shooting.

Just 5.3 seconds later, freshman Megan Godoyo drew contact on her way to the basket and made two free throws to tie the game at 35.
