The Brownstown High School girls basketball team lost in its first-round regional tournament game to Dieterich, 58-53, on Monday to end its season with a 12-12 record.

A .500 record is a disappointing finish for a team that before the season had aspirations of, at the very least, playing in a regional championship game.

That would have been challenging, considering the state-ranked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City co-op would have been the next opponent for the Lady Bombers had they defeated the Movin' Maroons.

Brownstown celebrates seniors with big win against Ramsey

Brownstown honored its seniors before Monday's game against Ramsey and followed up the celebration with its best offensive output of the season in a dominating 82-53 win against Ramsey.

Senior Bryce Mason had a season-high 28 points, and fellow senior Zach Rigdon added 15.

Despite the lopsided outcome, the Bombers and Rams were tied at 16 after the first period.

With 4:15 left in Saturday’s game against Marquette Catholic, the Vandalia High School boys basketball team trailed by 12 points.
Just 2:10 later, that deficit was cut to five by a free throw from sophomore Tim Ritchey, and the Vandals seemed to have had found the stroke they had been seeking since the second quarter, when they outscored the Explorers, 13-10.
But Vandalia went cold again, making just one basket in the final 2:05, while the Explorers added seven more points to earn a 60-50 win.
