    St. Elmo places third at Mattoon Invitational

    The Lady Eagles posted a 3-2 record and defeated Heyworth in straight sets to place third at Saturday’s Mattoon Invitational.

    Senior Perry Manley was named to the All-Tournament team after posting 75 assists, five kills and two service aces.

    St. Elmo opened the tourney with a 17-25, 25-18, 10-15 loss to Heyworth, before defeating Warrensburg-Latham, 25-20, 25-21, and Taylorville, 20-25, 25-11, 15-3.

  • Vandalia golfers struggle in loss at Effingham CC

    The Vandalia golf team fell to Effingham on Tuesday, 154-191.

    Senior Blake Swofford led the Vandals (4-4) at Effingham Country Club, shooting a 41 to finish in a tie for fourth.

    Sophomore Zach Schaal shot a 47 for Vandalia's second-best score, but all six of Effingham's golfers had 44 or lower.

    Senior Leyton Godoyo (51), senior Zach Jackson (52), sophomore Jake Bowen (58) and sophomore Adam Palmer (65) rounded out Vandalia's participants.

  • Lady Eagles topple Lady Cougars

    FARINA – Perry Manley and Savannah Feezel have things figured out.

    The senior duo from St. Elmo led the Lady Eagles to a 17-25, 25-17, 25-15 win against National Trail Conference rival South Central last Thursday, with Manley assisting Feezel on 13 kills during the game, including the back-breaking points in the third set,

    “Savannah had some great kills tonight,” said St. Elmo coach Elise Asher. “It was fabulous.”

  • Diss fires two-hitter as Cougars beat Eagles

    KINMUNDY – South Central senior Dan Diss tossed a two-hitter, as the Cougars dispatched National Trail Conference foe St. Elmo, 10-0, in five innings on Tuesday.

    Five Cougars had a multi-hit game to back up Diss (3-0), who struck out six.

    South Central (8-1, 5-0 NTC) scored in all but one inning, and St. Elmo's Levi Maxey (0-1) took the loss after striking out two in 3 2/3 innings.

  • Vandalia High School golf event canceled

    Wednesday's golf event between Vandalia, Litchfield and Christ Our Rock Lutheran high schools scheduled at Vandalia Country Club has been canceled due to the weather. No makeup date has been set at this time.

  • Lady Vandals win Altamont Tournament; South Central is third

    ALTAMONT - The Lady Vandals continued their hot start to the season, winning the Altamont Tournament on Saturday to move their season record to 6-0.

    Vandalia eeked into the title game, getting by South Central, 26-28, 25-19, 17-15, in the final game of pool play. The Lady Cougars went on to beat Greenville in three sets to place third.

    In the championship game, Vandalia battled Cumberland, winning 25-9, 24-26, 15-12. Senior RaeChelle Leiken secured 12 kills in the title match.

  • Vandalia falls in rain-delayed football game

    Steady rains marred the second half of one of the biggest games on Vandalia's football schedule, as Carlinville's dominating rushing attack was too much for the Vandals to handle in a 32-14 loss on Friday.

    Brendan Stewart rushed for more than 200 yards and had touchdowns of 77 and 65 yards for Carlinville (2-0).

    Vandalia's scores came on a 2-yard run by Luke Smith in the first quarter and a 10-yard pass from Tim Ritchey to Ryan Ambuehl in the third quarter.

    Vandalia (1-1) travels to Staunton (2-0) next Friday.
