  • Patoka beats Cisne to improve to 8-5

    PATOKA – The Warriors picked up their first win of the second half by beating Cisne, 58-37, last Thursday night.

    Junior Johnnie Clift scored 13 points to lead all scorers, and senior Quinn Wadkins got to 100 points on the season by scoring 12 in the game.

    Patoka (8-5) trailed by one after the first period, but scored 17 points in the second quarter to take a 25-18 lead to halftime. Included in that period were three 3-pointers, one each for Sheldan Felchlia, Seth Allen and Dylan Back.

    South Central and Vandalia met in a county battle of freshmen/sophomore boys basketball teams on Monday. The Cougars came away with a 50-32 victory.

  • Josie Earnest earns spot on Team USA

    Vandalia graduate Josie Earnest has qualified for Team USA in women’s bowling for the second straight year.

    Placing third at the Team USA Trials in Henderson, Nev., Earnest is assured a spot on the team, a place in the QubicaAMF World Cup and prize money.

    Defending trial champ Danielle McEwan took first in the national field, while Diandra Asbaty, a 15-time team USA selection, finished second.

    More information about Earnest’s return to Team USA will be available in this week’s edition of The Leader-Union.

  • Varsity-only girls game on Monday vs. South Central

    There will not be a JV girls basketball game tonight, as South Central does not have enough players.

    A varsity-only girls contest will follow the F/S boys basketball game, which begins at 6 p.m., at VCHS.

  • 78th annual NTC Tournament seeds, schedule announced

    The seeds and schedule have been released for the 78th annual National Trail Conference Tournament, which begins on Jan. 21 at Altamont High School.

    Dieterich was awarded the top seed in the boys basketball event, and Altamont, Stew-Stras, Cowden-Herrick and St. Elmo round out the top five.

    Other area teams in the tournament are No. 7 Brownstown and No. 10 South Central.

  • South Central boys game postponed

    The South Central boys basketball game scheduled for Friday night against Windsor has been postponed until Feb. 1.

  • Lady Vandals get first conference win of season

    The Lady Vandals picked up their first South Central Conference victory of the season, winning at Staunton, 42-25, on Thursday night.

    Senior Amber Bruno paced the team with 23 points, and junior Megan Godoyo had seven points and nine rebounds.

    Vandalia is 6-11 (1-4 SCC) on the season.
