  • Area Prep Roundup (May 11)

    TOURNAMENTS
    A pair of tournaments featuring local teams will take place on Saturday.

    In Greenville, the Ish Smith Classic will feature the Vandalia baseball team with two games at Greenville College’s Robert E. Smith Field.

    The Vandals will face Pinckneyville at 10:30 a.m., and then take on Red Bud at about 12:30 p.m.

    In St. Elmo, the Egyptian-Illini Conference softball tournament will be running all day.

    Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

  • PHOTOS: Rams get game in on Monday

    Ramsey was the only team in Fayette County to get in a game on Monday, losing to Windsor, 9-3.

    Freshman Brady Reiss pitched five innings of relief, allowing just one run on six hits.

    Junior Tylor Knisley went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored twice.

    Senior Ryan Black added an RBI double, and Carter Hunt was 1-for-3 in the game.

    The Rams would beat Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 2-1, on Tuesday, with Tristan Wesselman delivering a two-run double in the  sixth inning.

  • Vandalia baseball, softball senior days to be on Wednesday

    Vandalia's baseball and softball teams will celebrate their seniors prior to Wednesday's games against Southwestern.

    The senior presentations will begin 5-10 minutes before the 4:30 p.m. start time of each game.

    The meet was scheduled to be run in Staunton at 9 a.m. on Saturday. No makeup date has been announced.

    Vandalia baseball and softball against Litchfield have been canceled for Friday. There will not be a makeup date for the games. Thursday's games against Pana will also not be rescheduled.
