  • Lady Vandals hosting shootout next Tuesday

    The Vandalia High School girls basketball team will be hosting its only summer shootout next Tuesday.

    Participating teams in the 12-game shootout are Vandalia, Mt. Olive, Olney, Shelbyville, two teams from Central A&M and two teams from Newton.

    The Lady Vandals will play at 12:15 p.m. in the elementary school gym, facing Central A&M’s No. 2 team.

  • Two kids camps in Vandalia next week

    Jr. Vandal football camp is next week

    The Jr. Vandal football camp will be held from June 17-21.

    Students entering grades 2-6 may register for the camp, which will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. at Mark Greer Field.

    There will be no contact hits at the camp.

    The registration cost is $35.

    Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

    Vandalia High School girls basketball coach Michelle McNary led the Jr. Lady Vandals basketball camp last week.

  • Four area players named All-NTC

    Two softball players from the St. Elmo/Brownstown co-op and two players from South Central have been named all-conference in the National Trail Conference.

    The lone first-team selection was St. Elmo senior Megan Maxey.

    Second-team selections were St. Elmo senior Samantha Austin, and South Central seniors Macie Cain and Kellie Crain.

    South Central finished fifth in the NTC with a 3-4 record, and St. Elmo was tied for sixth at 3-5.

    South Central defeated St. Elmo, 8-3, in the seventh-place game of the NTC Tournament.

  • Band Boosters 5K A Success

    The Vandalia High School Band Boosters held a successful 5K run on Saturday morning, with a large number of individuals participating.     Vandalia senior Brittany Anspach last Wednesday signed a letter of intent to join the bowling team at McKendree University.

  • Legion seasons begin Tuesday

    Vandalia’s Legion baseball teams will both open the summer season next Tuesday.

    The Jr. Legion and the Sr. Legion teams will be in action throughout July, with the Jr. Legion team hosting eight games, and the Sr. Legion team hosting 10 games at Vandalia Mutual Field.

    The teams are made up of players from several schools in the area.

    Schedules for each team follow, with all games not in a tournament being a doubleheader unless otherwise noted.

  • Sports camps to be held in Vandalia

    Jr. Vandal basketball camp is June 3-7

    The Jr. Vandal boys basketball camp will be June 3-7.

    Boys will be divided into groups of grades K-3 and 4-7.

    Registration cost for K-3 is $25, and that camp will run from 8:30-9:45 a.m. each day.

    Registration cost for 4-7 is $35, and that camp will run from 10-11:45 a.m. each day.

    The camp will teach the fundamentals of basketball, including shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and man-to-man defense. Individual offensive moves and team play will also be instructed.

  • KC to hold several camps at main campus

    Kaskaskia College will soon be holding several sports camps at the main campus in Centralia.

    BASEBALL

    The Kaskaskia College baseball program will hold a pair of youth baseball camps in June.   

    A hitting camp will be held June 10- 11 from 9-11 a.m., and a pitching camp will be held June 12- 13 from 9-11 a.m.    

    Both camps will be held for students in kindergarten through eighth grades.

    The registration cost for each camp is $30, and each camper will receive a T-shirt.
