  • Three Jr. Vandals advance to IKWF state tourney
    Three Vandalia Jr. Club wrestlers advanced to this weekend's Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation novice and senior  state tournament at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford. Bobby Bradley (novice 130), and Dalton Blankenship (senior 130) both placed third, and Blake Cripe (senior 156) placed first at the Vandalia sectional on Saturday to advance. Fourteen other Jr. Club wrestlers participated at the sectional.

    St. Elmo Hero wins 24th, then scratched St. Elmo Hero, the harness racing horse named after a late St. Elmo man, earned his 24th straight win at Balmoral Park near Chicago to tie the record for most consecutive wins to start a career. The horse was scheduled to race at the Cam Fella Stakes in Canada last weekend, but he was scratched because he is sick. The stakes would have been the richest prize of his career had he won.     The Vandalia Jr. Club wrestlers participated in three different events this past weekend. Saturday, Feb. 5 at O'Fallon, Mo. •Markus Isaiah got first place in the 65-pound division •Anthony Enlow got first place in the midget heavyweight division •Garret Stewart got sixth place in the 95-pound division •Jake Stewart got second place in the 125-pound division.

    The Vandalia Jr. Club wrestlers competed at the IKWF Jon Davis Memorial Open Tournament in Springfield on Sunday. Approximately 1,400 wrestlers competed during the tournament. The following individuals participated for Vandalia:

  • Vandalia softball champs inducted to HOF
    The Vandalia men's fast pitch softball teams that won Class A national championships in 2005 and 2007 will be inducted into the Illinois Amateur Softball Association's Hall of Fame in April. On April, 9, members of Vandalia Freight, along with seven individual players and four other teams from the state, will be honored at a ceremony at the Decatur Hotel and Convention Center.
