  • Crafty pitching gives Jr. Legion team win
    The Vandalia Jr. Legion club started last Friday’s game with a soft-tossing lefty. It closed the game with a lanky, hard-throwing righty, and the contrasting styles had Salem fooled during an 8-5 win for Post 95. “That was our plan at the beginning of the game,” said TK Kinkead of his pitching strategy. “After the rough first inning, Matt (Campbell) really settled down, and I kept on letting him go until Salem caught up to him.”

    The South Central Jr. Legion baseball team split a doubleheader against Effingham on Saturday.
  • Vandalia Men's Slo-Pitch Softball Results from July 6
    Game 1 Keck’s Marsh 16 Goldsmith Farms 6 •Jason Laack had a double and a triple for Keck’s, and Matt Thompson homered and Cody Allen doubled for Goldsmith. Game 2 Goldsmith 9 Keck’s 7 •Patrick Thompson, Travis Nodyke and Reid McKinley each doubled for Goldsmith. For Keck’s, John Lotz doubled twice.

    Members of the Guaranteed Air Freight fast-pitch softball team on Saturday won an exhibition game, 13-3, at the Illinois Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in Casey, defeating a 23-and-under team from Rockford.

    Alumni softball game is Thursday The Vandalia alumni softball game will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. The game will be played on the Vandalia high school softball field. Vandalia's high school team will play its final home game of the summer season on Thursday, July 21, against Greenville. Next Thursday, the Lady Vandals play at Greenville, and they will play in the Decatur League Tournament from July 20-23. Lake Land College to host b-ball camps

    Game 1 KMO’s 15 Boley Mobile Homes 0 •Wyatt Schnaite and James Giles homered, and Jake Brimberry had a triple for KMO’s. Game 2 Boley 1 KMO’s 0 •With two outs in the second inning, Buddy Carroll tripled and Joe Elliott drove him home with a single to score the game’s lone run. That was the first 1-0 game in the history of the league that wasn’t a forfeit.
  • Local man makes Hole-in-One
    Shane Henson of Vandalia recorded a hole-in-one on the par three hole No. 8 at the Ramsey Lake Golf Course last Tuesday during a league match. Henson, 40, who has played golf for 28 years, said he didn’t actually see the ball go in the hole, but some of his friends began celebrating after it rolled in. He is dedicating the shot to his late father, who taught him how to golf.
  • Field of Dreams to sell brick pavers
    The Vandalia Field of Dreams Committee determined the price for engraved brick pavers and kicked around several ideas for their layout at its monthly meeting on Monday. A 4-inchX8-inch paver, which can have up to three lines of text, can be purchased for $40, and an 8-inchX8-inch paver, which can have up to seven lines of text, can be purchased for $80.

    Teams in the Vandalia men's slo-pitch league played four games last Wednesday. Game 1 Ugly Koyote 4 Motgomery Plumbing 2 •Preson Spicer had a game-winning three-run triple for Ugly Koyote, and Curtis Brubaker had a triple for Montgomery. Game 2 Ugly Koyote 12 Montgomery 4 •T. Payne, S. Murray (2) and M. Podergois each had doubles for Ugly Koyote.
