  • Sports Briefs (Oct. 20)
    Jr. Pro basketball camp starts Oct. 29 The Vandalia Jr. Pro boys basketball camp will begin on Oct. 29 and conclude on Nov. 12 during Red/White night. Boys in grades K-6 may register for the camp, which will emphasize individual attention to develop skills. Teaching kids to enjoy the game is one of the primary objectives of the camp.
  • Sports Briefs (Oct. 13)
    Knights of Columbus 5K is on Saturday The Knights of Columbus are hosting a 5K run/walk on Saturday at 8 a.m. at Mother of Dolors Parish Center in Vandalia. All proceeds from the event will benefit Cardinal Glennon Hospital and the Knights of Columbus. Registration is under way, and all runners who pre-register are guaranteed a T-shirt.  Registration on race day begins at 7:30 a.m., but those who register on Saturday cannot be assured a T-shirt.
  • Those who knew him say Martie deserves induction
    Some who played with or against Ramsey native Brian Martie say there is no question he deserves induction into the National Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame.
  • Family YMCA holds Board of Directors session at KC
    On Wednesday, Sept. 21, Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus hosted the Fayette County Family YMCA Board of Directors Strategic Planning Session. 
  • PHOTO: Safe-T/Health Expo Winners
    The Kids Safe-T/Health Expo, sponsored by Fayette County Hospital and Long Term Care, State Farm Insurance, Fayette County Interagency Council (FCIC) and the Safe Kids Coalition, was held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Kaskaskia College. More than 500 people attended the event. State Farm Insurance gave away two bicycles and 13 bicycle helmets to promote bicycle safety at the event.

    The Vandalia VYO football teams all won on Saturday.
  • Tumblers Perform Nationally
    Several area tumblers from Triple AAA Tumbling recently competed at the National Tumbling Championships in Charleston, W. Va.
  • Temperance Lodge hosting first annual golf tournament
    Temperance Lodge No. 16 is hosting its inaugural golf tournament on Saturday at Indian Springs Golf Course. The outing will include many different activities and prizes. The four-person scramble is open to men and women, and teams will compete for trophies and monetary prizes for first, second and third places. In addition, there will be four hole-in-one contests, closest-to-the-hole contest, longest putt and longest drive. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle will also take place during the event.

    The VYO football teams won four games against EAWR on Saturday. Scores can be found in the prep scores and schedules or on Page 3B of the print edition.
