The Vandalia Jr. Wrestling Club will begin registration and practices on Tuesday, Nov. 2 and Thursday, Nov. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the Vandalia High School Wrestling Room.

The Illinois Federation for Outdoor Resources recently held a membership drive. Vandalia High School athletic director and boys basketball coach Kevin Jackson has announced the dates for the Jr. Pro basketball program.
Boys in grades K-6 are eligible to participate in the program, which will meet on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9-10:30 a.m.; Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 6-7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9-10:30 a.m.; and at the Red/White game on Nov. 13. Registration is $25 for an individual and $40 for two or more children from the same household. Forms can be picked up at the high school office.
J.K. Barnes, grandson of John and Dorothy Barnes of Patoka, and Jennie Alice and the late Joe Harner of Brownstown, received the Mountain Mike McKay Rookie of the Year Award from the city of Solana Beach, Calif., after finishing his first year as an ocean beach lifeguard. He also served as president of a lifeguard association this summer.
Jeff Stone piles up bricks for the new backstop at the Vandalia High School baseball diamond. The work is being done as part of the Field of Dreams committee's second phase of improvements to ball fields in the city. The committee has three more phases it hopes to complete in the next five years and is always accepting donations, which can be made by dropping off a check payable to Vandalia Field of Dreams at Lincoln Land Credit Union or by sending a check to P.O. Box 242 in Vandalia.
Ladies church volleyball to begin
The Family YMCA of Vandalia is hosting a Ladies Church Volleyball League that will begin on Oct. 22.
Games will be played on Friday nights until Dec. 24, and the cost for a team is $100.

Deadline approaching for flag football
The registration deadline for the YMCA's adult flag football league is Oct. 15.
A tryout for the 2011 12U Liberty AAU League will be held at the Vandalia High School JV field from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday.
A second tryout will be held at Ramsey High School at 2 p.m. on Oct. 24.
Players should bring their own equipment to ensure they have the proper size, and tennis shoes in case the tryout is moved indoors.
