YMCA holding Healthy Kids Day event
The Family YMCA is hosting a free event in conjunction with the national YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday.
The event will take place from 1-3 p.m., with activities such as tug-o-war, dodge ball, kick ball and a fun relay.
The day is designed to help parents and children understand the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Trista Kinkel won the championship in the sub-novice 9-year-old division at the USTA state meet in Decatur last Sunday. She advanced to the national meet in Charleston, W.V., in June. She is the daughter of Tammy and Jeff Kinkel of Pocahontas, and the granddaughter of Catherine Haynes of Vandalia.
Bushue to open season with Lexington on Thursday
Houston Astros prospect and South Central High School graduate Tanner Bushue will open the 2011 season with the Class A Lexington Legends on Thursday.
Lexington opens the season with eight straight home games, the first four against Charleston and the last four against Hagarstown. Bryce Harper, the No. 1 overall pick in last season's Major League draft, plays for Hagarstown.
In 25 starts, Bushue was 7-8 with a 4.11 earned run average for the Legends last season.
Pro wrestling show coming to Vandalia Moose Lodge
Pro Wrestling Prestige is presenting a show at the Moose Lodge in Vandalia on Saturday, April 9, that will feature local professionals, including Vandalia native D.A. Morrison, and others who are known nationally.
The doors open for the show at 1:30 p.m., with the main show beginning at 2 p.m., and tickets are currently on sale at the Moose Lodge at 328 S. Third St.
Adult tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, and children’s tickets are $5.
