The Kids Safe-T/Health Expo, sponsored by Fayette County Hospital and Long Term Care, State Farm Insurance, Fayette County Interagency Council (FCIC) and the Safe Kids Coalition, was held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Kaskaskia College.
More than 500 people attended the event. State Farm Insurance gave away two bicycles and 13 bicycle helmets to promote bicycle safety at the event.
Temperance Lodge No. 16 is hosting its inaugural golf tournament on Saturday at Indian Springs Golf Course.
The outing will include many different activities and prizes.
The four-person scramble is open to men and women, and teams will compete for trophies and monetary prizes for first, second and third places.
In addition, there will be four hole-in-one contests, closest-to-the-hole contest, longest putt and longest drive. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle will also take place during the event.
Buckstop Archery’s Justin Atwood last Thursday was named the Most Valuable Player of the Vandalia men’s slo-pitch league’s season-ending double-elimination tournament.
Atwood allowed one earned run in four games during the tournament to help Buckstop take the title.
Buckstop was also the regular-season champions and Atwood the regular-season MVP.

K-Moe's upset Buckstop Archery, 10-9, last Thursday in the championship semifinals of the Vandalia men's slo-pitch single elimination tournament, and then went on to beat Ugly Koyote, 17-5, to take the title.
Jeremy Logue in the seventh inning hit a two-run homer to break an 8-8 tie against Buckstop, and K-Moe's would retire the final batter with the winning run on base.
Against Ugly Koyote, Logue's bases-loaded triple gave K-Moe's a 10-run lead in the sixth inning to end the game.
Logue was named tournament MVP.
The YMCA will offer several fitness programs in September.
Every Monday and Wednesday starting Sept. 12 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the YMCA will offer aerobics with Lynn Ferguson.
Every Tuesday starting Sept. 6, the YMCA will offer two bootcamps: “Wild Bootcamp” from 5-6 p.m. and “Mild Bootcamp” from 6-7 p.m, with Haron Denton
On every Tuesday and Thursday starting Sept. 8, Zumba will be offered from 9-10 a.m. with Alison Durbin.

The Vandalia Field of Dreams committee and the Vandalia Park District last Thursday came to an agreement on renovating the backstop at the high school softball field, and made concrete agreements on several other issues at the park district meeting.
Despite claims from the park district board that the chain-link fence backstop is “in too good of shape” to tear down, the Field of Dreams committee gained permission to remove the fencing to build a brick backstop, and the park board also gave a $3,000 contribution to the project.
