  • Fast-pitch softball tryouts in O'Fallon are on Aug. 3-4
    The Tomahawks fast-pitch softball organization will hold tryouts for its 10U-16U age groups on Aug. 3-4 at Field 6 in O'Fallon City Park. That is the high school's varsity field.     East-Central Illinois Liberty, a traveling team coached by Vandalia's Rich Well and Nick Casey, defeated the Vandalia Jr. Legion squad, 14-3, last Tuesday at Vandalia Mutual Field.
  • Quite the racquet
    VANDALIA – After purchasing his spot in the first racquetball game at the Family YMCA of Fayette County, Jim Pryor made sure that he got his money’s worth. The YMCA board member defeated First National Bank President Ernie Chappel on Monday night in the inaugural game on the recently-completed racquetball court at the YMCA. “It’s exciting,” said YMCA Executive Director John Ashdown. “We are basically finished with what we started and promised to the public when we started (our new facility).”
  • PHOTO: Hospital Hosts 2nd Annual 5K
    Friends and Families of Fayette County Hospital and Long-Term Care held its second annual 5K fun run and walk on Saturday morning, raising $3,029.75. Andy Powell was the overall winner, crossing the finish line in 21:54.2, and he was followed in the men's standings by James Crawford (22:41.4) and Ken Keener (22:43.8). The top female finisher was Lynn Portz (23:28.2), and she was followed in the women's standings by Tracy Cearlock (28:55.1) and Amy Willenborg (30:52.6).

    Last Wednesday, an exhibition game between the Vandalia Sr. Legion squad and Hosick's Motors, a team made up of employees and other former players, was played at Vandalia Mutual Field. The Sr. Legion team would pick up the victory in the nine-inning game.
