  • VFOD men's slo-pitch softball (July 31)
    The Vandalia Field of Dreams men's slo-pitch softball league will conclude its regular season on Wednesday before hosting an All-Star Game on Aug. 4 and a championship tournament on Aug. 11-12. With two wins on Wednesday, BCH Detailing would tie Roger Craig Welding for the regular-season championship, but if Patoka Fire Dept. beats BCH in one of the two games, RCW will be the outright champion.
  • Freight to play in state tourney this weekend
    The Freight will once again come of out retirement this weekend to play in the Amateur Softball Association’s annual state wooden bat fast-pitch softball tournament in Casey. Vandalia will play its first game on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Warrior Field against Teutopolis Miller Lite in the opening game of the tournament. With a win, Vandalia would advance to play the Springfield Frannies at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Warrior Field.

    Advancing to a national tumbling meet recently were 23 Triple A tumblers, who train in Vandalia, who finished in the top 10 at the state meet. Girls who advanced to the meet, which began on Monday in Louisville, Ky., are: Addie Sasse, Payton White, Peyton Dothager, Karlee VanUytven, Haylee Hediger, Lexie Kruep, Isabel Warner, Kaylee Rosenkoetter, Lauren Kaiser, Elly Hall, Emma Kershaw, Emily Manley, Hannah Warner, Ryenne Edwards, Ashton Smith, Isabelle Daiber, Alyssa Challans, Kassidy VanUytven, Gracye Davis, Ellika Whiteman, Anna Kramer, Lauren Hagy and Aurora Richardson.

  • Several events are upcoming at the Family YMCA of Fayette County
    SUMMER LEISURE SERIES The Family YMCA of Fayette County will hold its first session of the Summer Leisure Series next week. The program is designed to introduce lesser-played sports to youth ages 10-14, and will be held for one week in each June, July and August. Among the sports to be instructed are: ultimate Frisbee, bocce ball, badminton, sand volleyball, soccer, flag football, table tennis, dodge ball and relay races/obstacle courses. Prior knowledge of the sports is not a requirement.
