  • Junior Vandal Wrestlers
    The Junior Vandals Wrestling Club competed at meets in Fairbury and Jerseyville on Jan. 1 and 3, respectively. At Fairbury, Anthony Enlow and Eric McKinney placed first at the 13-14 and nine-10 division, respectively. Jerseyville 6-under: Cazdyn Brown placed first, while Drew Jones and Corbin Meyers finished second. Aiden Evans and Lane Cearlock also finished third.
  • Kaskaskia College to host winter cheerleading clinic
    The Kaskaskia College Cheerleaders will be hosting a winter cheerleading Clinic for area students on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m.-noon.  All participants can also have lunch with the cheerleaders and will also be asked to return to the KC gym to perform at halftime of the women’s or men’s basketball game that afternoon. The camp is for any boy or girl in pre-K through eighth grade.  Price to attend is $35 per person (includes T-shirt and lunch). Deadline to register and be guaranteed a T-shirt is Jan. 20.
  • Junior Vandals compete at Edwardsville and Highland
    The Junior Vandal Wrestling Club competed in two tournaments on Dec. 19-20. Edwardsville Dec. 19 Six-and-under: Cole Yarbrough and Brody Matthews placed first, while Aiden Evans and Drew Jones placed second and third, respectively. Kaden McFarland, Keagan Timmons and Michael Braun also finished fourth. Seven-eight: Wyatt Dothager placed first, while Dillon Hinton and Parker Ray finished second. Harrison Larimer finished fourth. 11-12: Jacob Schaal finished fifth.

  • Former Vandal wrestler continues career at Augustana College
      Vandalia graduate, Jake Stewart, competed at the 52nd annual North Central College Invitational in Naperville on Saturday. The Augustana freshman earned a first-round win over Milikin's Dwight Brown by 9-5 decision. He followed with a loss via fall to Riley Lefever of Wabash College. In the third round, he fell to North Central's Tanner VanDalsen in a 3-2 decision.
  • Junior Vandal Wrestlers begin action
    The Junior Vandal Wrestling Club began action last weekend with a tournament at Bethalto last Sunday. Six junior vandals placed first in the Bethalto Tournament. Cazdyn Brown, Brody Matthews and Cole Yarbrough in the 6-and under division, Dillon Hinton and Parker ray in the 7- and 8-year-old division, and Anthony Enlow in the 13- and 14-year-old division. In other results for the 6-and under division, Dominic Swyers placed second, Braxton Dunn and Drew Jones placed third, and Lane Cearlock, Kaden McFarland and Keagan Timmons placed fourth.

  • YMCA to offer new ball program in 2015
    VANDALIA – Traditional baseball and softball leagues for ages 9-14 will no longer be organized at the Family YMCA of Fayette County starting next summer, and another organization in Vandalia may offer a way to help continue the development of traveling teams. Starting next June, the YMCA will offer a five-week co-ed ball program for kids ages 9-14, which will better teach fundamentals, as well as expose youth to a broader spectrum of sports.
