Four area tumblers were recently named state champions at Highland High School, with all of them plus several other members of the Triple A Tumbling team qualifying for the national tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this June.
Deadline for YMCA summer baseball and softball is this Saturday night; umpires also sought for YMCA leagues
The deadline to register for the YMCA’s summer youth softball and baseball programs is on Saturday at 9 p.m.
Several different leagues are available.

Vandalia graduate Drew Bell last Friday completed an Olympic-length triathlon at the Collegiate National Championships in Tempe, Ariz.
Competing with a club team from the University of Illinois, Bell completed the event – which combines a 1,500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run – in 2:10:47 to finish 239th overall and 224th among men.
There were 1,001 overall athletes and 595 men in the field.
Vandalia resident Todd McDowell harvested a 23-pound turkey on Monday, the first day of turkey hunting season.
Hunting near the Kaskaskia River, McDowell got the kill early in the morning.
In addition to its size, the turkey had a 9-inch beard and 1-inch spurs.
A photo of McDowell and his turkey was lost due to a memory card malfunction.
The Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition will be returning to Vandalia on Saturday, April 27.
Hosted by the Family YMCA of Fayette County, the free event is part of a national competition held by the MLB and sponsored by Scott's.
The event will be held at the Vandalia high school baseball and softball fields, and is open to all youth ages 7-14.
The competition begins at 4 p.m.
Boys and girls are divided into age groups of 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12, and 13 and 14.
The deadline to register for the Family YMCA of Fayette County's youth dodgeball league is Saturday.
Children in grades 3-8 may register for the league, which begins play on April 9.
The registration cost is $15 for members and $30 for nonmembers.
The league will be split into grades 3-5 and grades 6-8.
Games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursday, with the grade 3-5 games from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and the grade 6-8 games from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Games will be played on April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25.
Members of the 1988-89 Kaskaskia College baseball team were recently inducted into the college's Athletic Hall of Fame.
On the team were Vandalia's Robert Garrison and Mulberry Grove's Curt Thacker.
