Jessica Blain acquired a love for reading when she was a child.
She earned a business degree in college, and that love for reading led her to apply for the position as director of the Evans Public Library, which she has now filled for five years.

Vandalia and the surrounding areas are fortunate to have many young families with children. The parents, guardians and other caregivers are also fortunate to have several child care and learning center/facilities available.

Jeff Bradley became a member of the Boy Scouts of America 11 years ago. He is 17 now, a senior at Vandalia Community High School and an Eagle Scout.
Bradley has earned the required 21 merit badges, and for his Eagle project, he provided a new sign for the Brownstown VFW Post 9770.

Though the sound of the horses’ hooves and stagecoach wheels turning have faded long ago into our heritage and history, the stories and memories handed down through the ages have preserved at least a glimpse into those days.

The late Clifford Nickels, who lived on the road now known as Ill. Route 185, across from the area on which the 4-Mile Store once stood, shared many of his memories of the long-ago days of his youth.
