After receiving reports of people inadvertently stepping off of the raised sidewalk areas in front of some businesses on Gallatin Street, the city of Vandalia decided to install handrails at those locations.

The handrails were installed last week, including this one in front of NOISE Music and Sound.

Mayor Rick Gottman, shown with three members of the Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE (A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education) has signed a proclamation declaring May as Motorcycle Awareness Month in Vandalia. The proclamation recognizes the efforts of ABATE to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. It should come as no surprise to you that there are many military veterans within our community suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – the same disorder many of you experienced after returning from war. As you can attest, if this disorder is left untreated, PTSD can destroy lives – the life of the individual suffering the disorder and the life of anyone close to them.
