EAST PEORIA – Of the three events she qualified in, eighth-grader Emma Meyer made her biggest impact at Saturday’s state meet in the pole vault.

After easily clearing the first six heights, Meyer needed all three attempts to set a new school record with 9 feet, 9 inches, and in doing so, she finished fourth at the Illinois Elementary School Association state championships.

Ruffner places 11th in high jump

CHARLESTON – Vandalia’s Sierah Ruffner has shown a different demeanor throughout her senior season of track.

And that focus and dedication paid its dividends at the state track championships.

Ruffner made the state high jump finals for the first time in three tries last Thursday, and took 11th place on Saturday, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.

Church Briefs

First Church of God to honor mothers

First Church of God will be honoring mothers with a continental breakfast from 9:30-10:15 a.m. this Sunday.
Mothers will also be honored during the worship service with a video program that features  responses from children of the church that were composed from Proverbs 31. The children also will be performing a song.
The church is located at the corner of Thrill Hill Road and Lakewood Drive.

FBC seniors honored at breakfast
