The Way We Were

20 Years Ago

1993 – A children’s activity area was added to the schedule for the Grande Levée. The area was sponsored by Baroque Folk, and was staffed by members of Vandalia Girl Scout Troop No. 381.
Tonya Cox was valedictorian of the class of 1993 at Vandalia Community High School, and Arpad Walker was salutatorian.
Tiffany Slater was valedictorian of the graduating class at Patoka High School, and Jennifer Britt was salutatorian.

The descendants of John Frank and Pearl (Leininger) Libell and his sister, Isaac Noah and Lela Ellen (Libell) Linton, met on June 2 at Vandalia City Park. There were 38 in attendance.

Tommy Daugherty of Farina and Courtney Young of Farina were married on Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Tommy is the son of Louis Daugherty and Nora Pinnell and Courtney is the daughter of Joel and Shelley Young.
The couple will reside in Farina.
Lcpl. Mitchell Buzzard and Morgan Russell were married on Saturday at St. Elmo. Mitch is the son of Dean and Sandy Buzzard and grandson of Carroll and Pat Lotz.
The couple will reside in San Diego, Calif., where Mitchell is stationed in the Marines.

UM-St. Louis College
of Optometry
Lacey Leann Feezel of Brownstown is among the May graduates at the University of Missouri-College of Optometry.
While a student at the college, Feezel was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, 2010-13; American Optometric Student Association, 2009-13; Student Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity, 2009-13; and National Optometric Student Association, 2010-13.
She plans to join an optometric practice in Effingham.

Several members of Beautiful Chaos Dance Center recently competed at a pair of regional competitions.

At the Midwest Cheer and Dance Championships in St. Louis, the senior dance team place first, and the junior dance team placed second with hip-hop routines.

At the Showstoppers Regional Competition in St. Charles, Mo., the senior dance team placed first in hip-hop and jazz, and second in lyrical.
