Jerry M. Summers, 65, of Vandalia, died on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, in the Fayette County Hospital emergency room in Vandalia.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday at Fairlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan Lovin officiating and military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Three businesses cited in ISP...

Illinois State Police District 12 officers conducted Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) surveillance at various establishments during the evening hours of Jan. 12 in Effingham and Fayette counties.
The purpose of these ACE details is to determine which businesses may be selling alcoholic beverages to minors (persons under 21 years of age).
Twenty-one locations were surveyed in Altamont, Vandalia, St. Elmo and St. Peter.

Skydiving ends at Vandalia...

For the first time in about two decades, Vandalia Airport is not serving as the home for skydiving operations.
About a year after the Vandalia Park District Board of Trustees decided it would not renew the lease with the current fixed-base operator of the airport, the board has decided to discontinue the partnership more than 10 months before the expiration of their current agreement.
Mark Miller, president of the park board, said on Tuesday that the board is parting ways with Jason Mark and Anita Wuertz, airport operators since 1999.

Texas man killed in I-70...

A Texas man was killed in an accident early Monday morning on Interstate 70 in eastern Fayette County.
Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen said that James Tinsley II of El Paso sustained fatal injuries when struck by a tractor-trailer shortly before daylight.
According to the Illinois State Police, a tractor-trailer driven by Tinsley was involved in a crash, which Bowen said resulted in his lights being disabled.

Man gets 7 years for sex crime

A Shobonier man who pleaded guilty last month to a sex crime was sentenced last week to seven years in prison, three years less than the cap agreed to by prosecutors.
Associate Judge Allan F. Lolie Jr. of Shelbyville handed down the sentence for Jarvis R. Denning at the completion of the hearing last Wednesday in Fayette County Circuit Court.
Denning, who is required to serve at least 85 percent of the seven-year sentence, was given 115 days credit for time he has served in the Fayette County Jail since his arrest.

Man gets 3 years in federal...

A Fayette County man who pleaded guilty in federal court to firearms charges has been sentenced to a little less than three years in federal prison.
Timothy Shellenbarger, 22, of St. Elmo, was given a 35-month prison sentence on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton.
Shellenbarger, who has been in custody since Dec. 17, 2010, will be on supervised release for three years after completing his prison sentence. He was fined $375 and ordered to pay a $200 special assessment.

Richard P. “Dick” Stock, 88, of Farina, died at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at The Glenwood in Effingham.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.
