Editor:
I am writing about the plans to close the Murray Center.
One of 88 children will get autism. Where are those clients to go? Most of them can't function in society.
The governor has said that he would put most of them in local facilities. But those are full. If you have a friend or relative with a mental illness, you can relate to what I am saying.
Most people would want them locked away. Some people would laugh at them and make fun.
Support the Murray Center.

I would like to clarify something that was published in the July 19 issue of The Leader-Union.
Under the "Our Opinion" section, the last paragraph stated the following: "...but the fact that this was acted on so quickly after discussions began, after one public meeting on the issue, one is left to wonder if, and how, this was all studied and how all city officials, except the current treasurer, came to believe this was the right decision."
This is not an accurate statement.

The picture on the front page of the March 7 issue of The Leader-Union of a tactical team training exercise in the halls of Vandalia Community High School is placed  alongside of the column headed “City adds liquor license” reveals inconsistency and hypocrisy.

Editor:
Dog bite injuries have plagued the U.S. Postal Service for many years. Last year, letter carriers working in Central Missouri, Northeast Missouri and Southern Illinois suffered more than 131 dog bite injuries. In addition, other letter carriers were injured falling off porches and down stairs trying to avoid being bitten. Recently, two letter carriers suffered serious injury, requiring hospitalization and surgeries.
